things this generation will never experience
Jun 15, 2014, 1:21 AM
|

1. Car Keys, you know, the ones you put in the key hole and turned to unlock your car. and if you locked them in you had to get a coat hanger to get them out. 2. Books, Those thick heavy things with paper 3. VHS, The hastle of rewinding a tape to watch a funny scene again. 4. *69, that thing you did to find out who was stalking you 6. taking a huge chuck out of bubble tape 7. The thrill of walking into class and seeing the TV set up, knowing you were watching a movie that day 8. Metal slides that burned the ever living #### out of you. 9. Those Boston pencil sharpeners, AKA "the knuckle buster" 10. The thrill of your parents finally buying you that Coleco football game.
I could go on forever, so feel free to add to the list.

Roll up your windows - actually turn a crank and roll them up.
Use a silver button on the floor board to hit your bright lines on and off.
Get in a car without seat belts.
Gas tanks that filled up behind the license tag - yea, it flipped down for access.
Get up and change a channel by turning a dial - and tuning in your antenna on your roof.
Room air conditioners. We had one room in my house as a kid that had an air-conditioner - we did have an attic fan - and you don't see those any more either.

I remember some old Chevy trucks had the starter on the floor board, in the middle of the hump right beside the gas peddle.

those old wooden shoe-shine boxes (Does anybody except me still shine their shoes?).
the simple joy of reading the Sunday newspaper.
getting film developed and the anticipation of seeing how the pictures "turned out".
taking the TV to the shop (or toaster, washing machine, record player, or any appliance). Now we just toss and buy a new one.
listening to a Clemson football game on the radio because it's not on TV.

Men today seem like they never heard of shoe polish. There is a guy in my Sunday School class that has a pair of Weejuns that haven't seen polish since the Baltimore Colts won the Super Bowl.

I work on a pair once or twice a week at night watching TV, just to pass the time. Nothing like a clean, spotless pair of boots. (MY boots, I am not for rent or sale).
I have one of those old Kiwi wood boxes I inherited from my dad. It HAS to be 50 years old or older. Looks like this:

The TV repair guy coming in with a satchel full of vacuum tubes each in their own little box. TV repair guys coming to your house at all. Only three TV channels. CBS, NBC, ABC Only one baseball game televised all week... usually the Yankees. Using discarded blocks of wood from a construction site as toys. Wool baseball uniforms. SO HOT!! Sanitaries and stirrups... baseball socks for you who don't know. Riding your bike to the Friday night football game, leaving it outside the gate leaning against the fence, and nobody touching it.

It was the presence of a 16 mm projector and screen.
Also I doubt that anyone will be buying the "replacement" erasers that you used after you wore the one on the pencil down flat. Usually with the pencil still six inches long.
