These women do not ‘only have themselves to blame’

Sep 1, 2014, 4:43 PM

This is why I need feminism in my life

http://www.dailylife.com.au/news-and-views/dl-opinion/this-is-why-you-shouldnt-click-on-the-naked-photos-of-jennifer-lawrence-20140901-3eo6s.html

"If you deliberately seek out any of these images, you are directly participating in the violation not just of numerous women’s privacy but also of their bodies. These images - which I have not seen and which I will not look for - are intimate, private moments belonging only to the people who appear in them and who they have invited to see them. To have those moments stolen and broadcast to the world is an egregious act of psychic violence which constitutes a form of assault."

Now that's rich....

Sep 1, 2014, 6:04 PM

Maybe if they weren't such narcissist, taking nude photos of themselves, they wouldn't have this problem. And even if they do, they're dumb to leave them on a phone or even on some cloud service.

If I were a star and for some stupid reason just HAD to take some nekkid pictures of myself....

They would reside ONLY on my PC and ONLY if they were encrypted.

Yeah, I'm sorry this happened to them. But they did two things to enable this whole mess. First, they took naked photos of themselves. Second, they stored it on some other machine, not under their control, hooked up to the internet.

Are you being serious?

Sep 1, 2014, 10:59 PM

I hope you're kidding...

your argument is basically the same as saying, "it's the girl's fault for being naked in their room when I climb the tree and peep in their bedroom window."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm saying that they are partly to blame for their

Sep 2, 2014, 8:54 AM

problems. 1) Don't film yourself having sex 2) don't store that film on a cloud service. Problem solved.

And even in your analogy, who sits around their bedroom naked with the windows uncovered?

I'm just saying there are simple steps people can take to prevent being the victim of hackers or even peeping toms. I'm assigning fault to all parties here. There is no assumption of privacy on the internet. You would think that Snowden guy, and 1,000+ hacked financial institutions would have shown people that. Anyone who wants anything bad enough can get it eventually. And A-list Hollywood stars should be more wary of that than anyone.

Even a website like Photobucket. You have an account there, have tons of personal pictures stored there, and you think you're safe? There's a website where you can enter any Photobucket username and a ###### will spit out every photo and video in the "password-protected" account, complete with nice little thumbnails. The website logs all searches and has a rating system for each user account. Guess who gets the best ratings? Yep. The accounts with nude photos. And how did Photobucket respond to this? By doing nothing because the fix would mean they would have to totally revamp their website.

If you value your privacy, act like it. And parents should be especially vigilant to teach their kids about responsible use of social media and the internet. My sons do not exist on the internet, and they won't until they're old enough to understand how to use it responsibly. They will own their online presence, whatever it is. Photos and information about my son on the internet will be put there by him, not by me or his mom in some Facebook post showing him off to people we haven't seen or talked to in years. When he's old enough, he will have the ability to control everything about him on the internet...unless some hacker steals his identity before he even gets out of elementary school. Some things are beyond your control, but control what you can.

Just be more responsible and never expect anyone else to be, because they won't be. If you must take nude photos of yourself don't share them with anyone (that's a huge problem), and don't let them fly around the internet. Because once it's out there, it really doesn't matter whose fault it is. It will be there forever. Just Google our former coach's daughter's name. Forever.

that article made me go search them out

This Jennifer Lawrence girl is average for a supposed Hollywood actor. Real life 7 maybe. There's 500 hotter chicks than her inside the Clemson town limits right now. Never seen a movie with her in it I don't think. I know she did the Hunger Games or some movie like that I didn't see.

The Upton girl is just a mess. She's gonna make Anna Nicole look anorexic when she gets 8-10 more years on her.

I never even heard of any of the others.

"Not sure if you were being serious but this is an interesting point. A woman who makes consensual pornography when she's 18 may feel very different about it when she's older and may want to have it removed. If she has no legal means or mechanism to have it removed - which most if not all women in the industry don't - she would suffer the same psychic violation as any other woman who has non-consensual material plastered all over the Internet. Which would make the #### industry as it stands.unethical and not something a feminist should support."
