The Shipley/Spiller affair is one more symptom

Of the overall problem that has infected Clemson offensive football for the last 4 years - Dabo has hired inexperienced, raw former players to be position coaches. This high risk decision has been a disaster and was masked for the first couple of years by superior talent. Now as the talent base has eroded, we’re seeing the effects of these hiring decisions. Shipley doesn’t respect his position coach and he probably has some basis for that whether or not he should ever do what he did. The OL doesn’t respect their position coach and the WRs don’t respect their position coach. The veterans’ play reveals this. Without wholesale coaching changes on the offensive side of the ball, emotional players like Shipley will continue to exhibit frustration. I hope Dabo has the guts to make the drastic changes at the end of the season to fix these issues.

He was mad because he doesn't have a rushing TD yet in 3 games. He wanted his chance to get his from the 1yd line since he had pushed the last 4yds. Plus add in he feels like Mafah has been given some easy walk-ins.

Competitive looks a lot like selfish.

Kid has probably been coddled and told he’s the best his whole life, and he’s realizing he’s not even the best on his own team, and the response is showing some real emotional immaturity.

Yep. Being a former great player at any position does not equal being a good coach.

You are jumping the ocean. Calm down. Stop trying to read between the tea leaves. Football is an emotional game. Stuff happens in the heat of the moment.

I respectfully disagree. First, has there been instances of disrespect to other position coaches? Not sure you can attribute poor play to disrespect, but more to ability and talent level.
My edit upon further reflection - there are some coaching problems as evidenced by sloppy play and dumb penalties. When we were elite, those didn't happen as much.
Shipley's behavior, while disrespectful, looks more like immaturity to me. I bet he has respect for CJ, but he's been the Man in HS, and isn't used to not being the star, where everyone is focused on him. Shipley has to get control of his emotions and take them to the field and put them into his performance. Ben Boulware was also an emotional player, but NEVER disprected his coach and turned his anger to drive.
Anger is good fuel, but it burns to quickly to be useful in the long wrong - turn that anger into drive and focus.
