House Buyer's remorse....surprise, surprise

Feb 11, 2022, 11:42 AM

wonder why this is happening, given people are buying houses sight unseen for obscene money.
Stupid is as Stupid does.....

Re: House Buyer's remorse....surprise, surprise

Feb 11, 2022, 11:45 AM

Pork tenderloin wants to move this summer and I have a terrible feeling about it. Not looking forward to this at all. But also would never buy a house without checking it out first.

buy the house, if you don't like it

Feb 11, 2022, 11:50 AM

you can turn around and sell it for a huge profit!

On what planet is that a $1.2M house?

Feb 11, 2022, 12:02 PM

Sheer stupidity.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its the old village planet.

Feb 11, 2022, 12:10 PM

It sold 40 days ago for an equally ridiculous $930K.

$330K is a heckuva a carrying cost for 40 days.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oops..it sold for $950k.

Feb 11, 2022, 12:12 PM

So they only want $310K more for 40 days of doing nothing to it.

There is a house in Clemson, although nicer, is just a 1 story ranch that has been fixed up that is 1.25 million list price. In Clemson? Crazy.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That house is ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure it will sell.

Feb 11, 2022, 1:29 PM

I have no love for that house, it was just the automatic response I had to Neal's post about "buy the house, if you don't like it you can turn around and sell it for a huge profit!"

Look at its recent sales and asking prices.

As to the old village...I'm old enough to remember when no one wanted to live "over there" because it was too far away from anything, and according to my father "only drunks and losers live at the beach".

Times have certainly changed. Snee Farm was an upstart neighborhood and was essentially the end of the world until you got to Georgetown.

Obviously neither a dream home nor a bargain, but what's

I looked at that same zillow ad this morning.

Except the 10-15 other offers it will having drive it closer to $750K than the $575K they are asking.

There have been numerous times I look at a house

Feb 11, 2022, 12:01 PM

and the 5 couples behind me putting offers on it, and I feel like Marko Ramius in the Hunt for Red October. I need to turn hard right to make the torpedo hit the underwater mountain rather than hit me. Everyone (my wife and me, really) are questioning NOT putting an overpriced offer on something that needs $50-$100K of work and I'm all "Steady---Steady!"

Then later, when I still don't have anywhere to live, my wife is Tupolev's Executive Officer when he realizes that their own torpedo is about to hit them. "You arrogant ###! You've killed us!"

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

None that I have been told about.

Feb 11, 2022, 1:57 PM

And if I do that, the house problem sorta solves itself, because I'll be back to looking for a vacancy under the bridge.

more than a house is worth anyways.

Some of it is irrational exuberance.

Feb 11, 2022, 12:18 PM

They may like the place, and idealize what they want it to be. And it doesn't help they know the house is going to get bought by the people waiting in their car outside to see it.

Then reality of living in and paying for a self induced construction zone for the next 3 months to a year hits.

Or, they need a covered place to sleep at night.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Isn't the house worth what someone is willing to pay for it?***

A young guy in our neighborhood got a new motocycle,

Feb 11, 2022, 12:38 PM

screamingly loud. Raced from stop sign to stop sign.

At a neighbor's party MissTulsa asked a small group standing at the bar, "Have you guys heard that guy racing up and down the streets?" There were the typical comments, those petered out, and there was a moment of silence. The engineer type who never says anything then added, "Well, these things have a way of being self correcting." I spewed bourbon.

It's like the high minded articles explaining how The Big Reset is the explanation for why businesses can't get employees: underexperienced Zers deciding they want to be tech CEO's rather than wage-and-hour employees. Okay, fine. The market will handle that.

the whole FOMO of house change was bound to burst....

Feb 11, 2022, 1:33 PM

didn't understand it. I took advantage to downsize, get locked in on a new low rate. Super low mortgage now, and my new house value has risen 50k in a year due to the madness. Almost wanted to sell again, but decided not too.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Feb 11, 2022, 1:37 PM

it would have been crazy not to take advantage of almost free money that was floating around teh last few years.

If someone would have told me in Sept/Oct of 2020 that "there is a going to a pandemic that is going to fuel the housing market to unsustainable ridiculous levels" I would have looked at them and started laughing.
