With TJ Moore coming in expecting playing time off the rip(he has mad eit known he wants to earn freshman all american) Getting Cole Turner back. Having Williams, Randall, Brown, Stellato back with Noble Johnson and Hanafin wanting snaps, it's likely we will see some attrition post spring game.
That said Grisham has an over abundance over extremely talented players and even more under rated guys like Hamp that aren't even in the above list, and new commit Wesco. With Cade entering his second full year and all those WRs along with a deadly RB there should be no excuses not too be seeing 300yard passing games all year.

I think the main difference this upcoming season is that we will have several potentially great WRs (none Elite) and playing time may have to be distinguished once the season starts. We don't currently have an ELITE wr. If we had a Tee Higgins coming back for his senior season I could see people maybe transferring. It appears to this fan that the jobs are all up in the air and whoever produces over the next few months will get those reps.

Exactly. I wouldn't consider any elite right now, but the potential is there for several. Excited to see who steps up the fastest.

Many of our WRs have the potential to be elite. Several of our past NFL WRs didn't start out elite but developed into that. Martavis Bryant comes to mind.
Say what? "Tay" was 6'4" and 215 lbs. and was repeatedly timed under 4.40. He posted a 39" vertical jump at the Combine. He did not generate eye popping stats due to all the talent at WR. He was elite when he stepped on the field at Clemson and he was elite in the NFL before making numerous terrible decisions that cut his career short. We have nobody coming back from last years team that is even in the same zip code as far physical measurables.

I don't know that Martavis ever developed into a polished WR, he still eaned heavily on his raw skills: size, length and elite speed. The Steelers made good use of his height and 4.35 speed and he was a TD machine for segments of a few seasons when available—

The narrative that Clemson's best receivers were all freshman super-stars is wrong. It's not even close.
Nuke, Mike Williams, etc...and every other NFL WR talent that's rolled through Clemson had to develop along the way.
Collectively, let's stop acting like a WR has to be Sammy Watkins good their freshman year to have a chance at being great, or an NFL talent.

These former WRs all showed what they were capable of by their sophomore season. A. Williams and Tyler Brown are in that category. The rest of the current WR roster has much to prove.

True, they did show flashes.
It perplexes me that people do not see the correlation between player development, and production. Nobody rational expects Sammy Watkins type out of the box production, but it would be nice to see a little progress from year to year.

There will be much more competition this year. I hope Grisham instigates a heated battle for playing time with an emphasis on nasty blocking attitudes. It's chip on shoulder time for that group.

Many could not in 2023. Even three year recvrs like Beau Collins could not consistently perform these pre-requisites last year. Turner's most memorable plays in very short 2023 season were drops. Recruiting, development, work ethic, and on-field coaching are all part of the equation.
Hopefully, the second season of Riley's tenure and learning Riley's new playbook will lend itself to players feeling more comfortable on the field. I'm optimistic Clemson Offense will perform. Dabo, Will and Riley will have to have the best players (not the oldest) confident they can compete with UGA.

I hope Grisham shows us something new, because whatever he's been doing hasn't worked.
Playing "nasty", "physical", with an "attitude" sounds nice. In fact, I bet 99% of college WR coaches preach that mentality.
Something between the words spoken and the on-the-field product has to change.
Blocking, and dropping catchable passes has nothing to do with talent. We haven't been very good, much less elite at these lately. I realize it's a team sport and that having a great QB and OL helps, but WR play hasn't exactly impressed anyone over the last 4 seasons.

Cade throws a great deep ball and is highly accurate when he has more then .05 seconds to work his progressions. Hopefully the new oline coach can scheme some protections. And our OC is definitely no slouch.

Cade scares me every time the pocket breaks down. When he scrambles around he has tendency to throw it up for grabs or an intentional grounding. This is where I think Luke could help in a big way. Better line play should equal better qb play. I also think Cade throws the deep ball way too high.

cade didnt have a pocket. With improved oline which i most certainly expect. Cade will be fine.

and most of the ones I have seen have either been way off the mark or floated up there like wounded ducks.
I also think he tends to make poor decisions at times which can be catastrophic.
Hopefully better WRs and what I expect to be better OL play will result in better passes from Cade.

Go back and look at Cade’s senior season HS state championship game. He had an elite WR on that high school team that made him look great. DW4 wasn’t the most accurate passer, but he had a whole bunch of WRs that fought for and caught anything close to them. And not all of them were 5 stars coming out of HS. We haven’t had that from our WRs since 2020. You are quick to use the word underachieving to describe our football program. If it applies to any group over the last 3 years it would be the WRs. When we get WRs that run routes all out and fight for catches like that group from 2015-2019 then we can compare quarterbacks equally.

I definitely agree there will be attrition, but I'd definitely be cautious. It's optimism season, where we project everything better than it is. I think we will have a bunch of experience coming back, but true #1 type NFL receivers they aren't. We are still operating on potential for everyone. Cole Turner, outside of UNC game hadn't been a #1. Not saying he won't or can't be. Just still potential. Stellato, potential. Adam Randall, body of a #1 for sure, but actual production is still only potential. Williams production has been good, but probably around his ceiling. Wesco could be, but we don't know yet. TJ Moore gets raved about and looks the part, but we don't know yet. The Musa (can't remember his name) kid gets rave reviews too but still potential. Dabo has said the same thing about other players in the past. I'm a trust but verify kinda guy. We need verification that these guys can be NFL type guys.

It will make life so much easier for all those other guys on the roster. Everything was so hard, every completion because everything was so congested. If we can start to stretch the field again, teams can play man or zone and we will easily move the ball down the field. Moore seems like a guy that will really excel in man (just being able to beat his guy), and if that’s the case the best defenders will be chasing him and helping put the #2 or 3 guys with more favorable matchups (Stellato in particular, best hands on the team but couldn’t consistently beat a top defender in the open field or on the shorter stuff, expect him to thrive if Moore/Wesco can do that, AW0 and TB as well). And vs zone the zones will have to stretch further and leave the 6-7 yard completions open all day and we can just dink and dunk until they adjust and take it away— then those guys can work the outside. Should be fun, especially if we got what we think we got out of this incoming class.

Problem I see with Moore is he has to be able to come in and be extremely good all the time at every phase in order to jump the upperclassmen. We all know Dabo will play the uppers because they earned it unless there is massive separation.

This team has some studs, and 2024 looks like it could be an outstanding group with TJ & Wesco coming in to join Williams & Brown along with a hopefully healthy Randall....

- Turner can contribute, plug him in on fly routes from time to time
- Stellato can contribute if he can get separation consistently (dynamic hands)
- Johnson could take a step forward and contribute
- Hanafin isn’t a WR at this level, there is a reason why teams were recruiting him as a Safety.
