There are a number of rules that roll up into one penalty...

See page FR-64 and FR-112 in the official NCAA Football Rules. The actual penalty would be 'Infraction of free kick formation' but I doubt you will ever hear that. The signal is offsides... see page FR-134 (signals 18-19)

We have OU game ahead, undefeated and ranked #1. If that is not enough, the coots year and coaching hire should just make us smile. Life as a Tiger is so great, we should just be enjoying it.

someone having a different opinion.
A thread 5-10 years ago may have been "The refs made a terrible call against us." Now it's a bunch of "SO-AND-SO said this thing I really disagree with! What an idiot!" So many threads every day like that. I don't get it.

the breaking of the plane can be debated........
Dec 9, 2015, 4:05 PM
|
|
which is what the ref called for, but regardless of whether anybody agrees with the ref..................................the NON call of "offsides" due to the "9-yard" rule.........and the NON call of the targeting that took place during that play is the trump card.
so even if the player DIDN'T break the plane.............UNC DID IN FACT break the 9-yard rule as well as the targeting rule.
why ESPN or any other media outlet hasn't picked up on that is beyond me.

Why do you think they haven't "picked up" on that?

Not correct

The rule says that they players must have been between the 9-yard hashmarks *AT SOME TIME* after the play is started. They don't have to line up there. The rule is to prevent you from keeping someone over near the sideline and having them be eligible to participate in the kick.
All of the UNC players, AFAIK, had been between the hashmarks at some point after the play was begun. Lining up outside the hashmarks is common on onside kicks (and regular kickoffs as well).
