2008 team led by Purnell was so much fun to watch! I think they ended up making it all the way to the ACC championship game that year. Only Brownell team that matched the energy was the sweet 16 team. Brownell teams lose to many games that they shouldn’t. Really hope they win this one.

Stitt missed a pair that would have iced it in regulation. But the refs slowed that game to a crawl. Fouls were a comical 31-14.

Tim described it as heartbreaking but I was too pissed to be heartbroken. It was one of the 3 worst officiated games I remember watching and I don’t usually join that chorus. Clemson often has to play more physical to offset the talent differential with teams like UNC or Duke - and that leads to more fouls. It it also leads to a bias from the officials. They called 31-14 fouls in a double overtime game. Clemson scored 1 point on 7 free throws to UNC’s 31-36.

But the biggest, most glaring, and damaging thing in the officiating was that Tyler Hansbrough played 47 minutes of a 50 minute game, scored 39 points (1 off his career high), and did it all while only picking up 3 fouls (the 3rd of which wasn’t until about a minute left in regulation). Had he been officiated with remotely the same standard as his Clemson opponents, he would have had to sit for more than 3 minutes in regulation and the game never makes it to overtime.

Yes, I’m sorry I didn’t log onto TNet immediately after the game. I had a household project that needed completing when it was over. I’m sure a lot of coots are intimately familiar with the specifics of our different UNC games. So much so that famous coot Tim Bourett would make the same observation.
