I don’t think Kiffin had any interest in aTm. There is a reason a school like aTm, who has seemingly everything needed win at a high level, has not won squat in forever.

just ahead of the 2016 CFP having issues with Saban? Plus he left Tennessee after one season, couldn't get USC going in 3 1/2 seasons, and has been inconsistent at Florida Atlantic and Ole Miss.

Kiffin had already taken the Florida Atlantic head coaching position. Not sure it was really a falling out, but more about he was already working on recruiting and hiring assistants. Think he has made some mistakes both personally and professionally, but has matured into knowing offense as well as anybody. Defense?? He would need to hire a good DC. But he seems to have a great relationship with his players and seems to do well in this new environment.
