The game last night shows why I would go for 2 in that situation...

Sep 5, 2022, 8:53 AM

LSU had the momentum against the better team. If it goes to OT, they would probably eventually have to make a 2 pt play to win anyway, so why not do it after the TD to start with?

An even better example was Auburn vs Bama last year. Went to OT, Bame gets ball first and scores, Auburn then scores...I would have went for 2 right then! Their odds were much better doing that, than to continue to trade punches with Bama!

This game also shows you the importance of clock management. I’ve been a strong proponent of that for a long time.

Disagree. LSU was essentially at home and had the mojo. The odds of making an extra point were 97.1%. 2 point conversions-45-50%. Had the roles been reversed, I can see FSU going for 2.

I would not have let the ball leave my QB's hands inside the red zone and the clock under 2 minutes. The pitch was the dumb call.

Both teams didn't execute well on special teams.

Sure, making the kick is 97%, but they're still only tied

and would likely still have to make a 2 pointer to win, if it goes to OT.

If FSU kicks the fog at end of first half, it’s not even

an issue. Almost came back to bite them.

The coach at Presbyterian tried that and lasted a year. You would too.

Norvell seems to have much improved FSU, and he certainly has players in much better playing condition that the previous coach never had. However, he doesn't appear to be a good game coach.

He should have kicked the FG on 4th and 2 in the first half to go up by 10. When he had the ball, with about 2 minutes to go after LSU scored to make it 24-17, why run sweeps to the narrow side of the field? After he got the last fumbled punt, take care of the ball because only a FG was needed to go up by 10 and seal the game. The pitch out was dumb.

FSU got 0 points from two fumbled punt recoveries near the goal line.

That would be an asinine decision.

When at home, kick the extra point.
When away, go for two.

And if you go for two and don't make it then you get blasted for making a stupid decision when you had all the mo going your way for overtime.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No coach in his right mind would have gone for 2 there.

Kick the 99.999% sure thing and take the momentum to OT. Two point conversions are made less than half the time. No way do you risk blowing that comeback for less than 50% odds.
