being known more for quality football than quality basketball. It's always a little sad when things like this happen, but it's also a little exciting to look ahead to the inevitable.

Not sure on the football part but I am hopeful. Not sure the ACC can be called a basketball conference any longer. Not even top 3. We have become a soccer conference if we just take the number of teams in the top 25. I love soccer but not sure that’s what we want to rely on when negotiating new tv deals.

if we're being objective. Soccer is great, but doesn't pay the bills. With Clemson and FSU being two of the hottest football commodities right now, the transition is ripe. And even though NC State is terrible, UNC, WF, Duke, ND, and Pitt all appear to be on the upswing. I think that Miami is going to have a nice turn around this coming season as well.
Regardless, I think that it's obvious basketball is fading pretty quickly and the ACC needs to adapt or die.

I cannot figure out what has happened at Va Tech. Can they not afford a good coach? They were very good when they joined. Them and Miami have been huge disappointments. I too believe FSU is trending upwards.

How much of the drop in basketball would you attribute to Coach K and Roy Williams retiring? Or is the timing coincidental? Maybe great coaching does have as big an impact as facilities and fan support?

Do you think the ACC is even really a Power 5 in football? It’s hard to see how it is. I keep waiting for somebody to get even decent, and it isn’t happening.

I respectfully disagree because in basketball you will have Duke, Carolina, UVA and Virginia Tech at or near the top every year and everyone else on the ROY Bus. In football you will have Clemson, FSU, Carolina, NC State and Miami so for me that is pretty equal between basketball and football
