Adult comments by UNC head coach after defeat

"I'm disappointed in me," UNC coach Mack Brown said. "I'm disappointed in us as coaches. Kids listen to us, they're young people. It's our job to get them ready to play."

I think in general Dabo usually says it's the coach's responsibility when we lose. It's a little different when you call a play and the QB just decides to go rogue and take it himself. At that point, you're either throwing your QB or your OC under the bus for a terrible decision. Might as well be the one that actually made the terrible decision.

The fact that many on here are railing at Dabo for calling out Cade is

just emblematic of our current society in general. Heaven forbid we actually assign blame to a kid, and make him have some consequences for his actions when he screws up. That might stunt his widdle development as a milquetoast human bean!

You are right. He should have punishment of some kind.

Things are changing. They aren't "kids" anymore

When the NIL deals became so lucrative so quickly, I've changed my opinion on criticizing the star players. Between the stipends and NIL deals, I suspect that Cade Klubnik makes more in a year than 95% of us on this board. ON3 has a valuation of him around $325k, which is probably high, but makes the point.

The higher profile players in college aren't kids. They are wealthy adults being paid to play football.

Cade has to be better. I personally would sit him on the bench for at least the first series next week for not running the play that was called and for the continuing lack of ball security.

Don't get me wrong. The coaching staff has to take a lot of the blame as well, but at the same time, they can point to a lack of execution and be correct. There is about 150 people in that indoor facility that need to look in the mirror and step up their effort and execution.

I agree Cade needs to sit a few series.

Doesn’t sound like that’s gonna happen though.

Please explain how sitting Cade on the bench will help the offensive line with their blocking. That play was blown up behind the line by the Miami defense and if Cade gives it to Ship, he would have been stoned in his tracks. People who don't know football should stop commenting. Cade was trying to make a play out of nothing with zero help from his offensive line. That was all you saw.

Nope. Cade made a bad read. Miami looped a LB/Safety around to contain the

backside. Now I'm not saying that Shipley would have scored or that the OL played worth a dog-gone in any way during this game. But if you have a player that is not running the play that is called, then it isn't helping anyone for him to be on the field. Case in point. On this play, Sage Ennis is cutting off the back side DE (trying to). If this had been a zone read, then Ennis would have left the DE alone and been available to step out and work on that looping LB giving Cade a chance. Since the play call was a straight run, no one had any responsibility for blocking that backside LB. There is no reason to block that guy as he would never be able to reach and make a play on a run between RG-RT before Shipley is in the endzone anyway.

I also acknowledge that Helms is not as good at Klubnik and it wouldn't benefit us against State, but this team needs some accountability. If you put the ball on the ground or don't play your assignment, you need to cycle off for a few plays. That shouldn't just apply to 10 out of 11.

It should have never come down to that play.

We lost the game in the 4th quarter. The offense stayed on the field for a total of 1:20 and managed to gain a whopping 5 yards the entire quarter.

Remember when coaches would apologize to the fans? It used to be the first thing out of Danny's mouth in post game after a loss?

Dabo apologized to 98.5% of them last week…

Dabo did apologize in the post game press conference. He said, “I’m sorry to the fans, they deserve better.”

That is very well said, and brings a humanity to the situation. These are, after all, kids playing a game that means far too much, to far too many people. The pressure can be immense on the coaches, which translates to the players. That is a lot for 18/19/20/21 year olds

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To be fair, most of them arent kids.

They are adults. Part of being 18 YO and over is taking accountability for your own actions. I don’t think CDS should throw anyone under the bus bc essentially he caused this decline bc of his own arrogance and his own decisions.

The only person a 19 or 20 yr old is a kid is to their momma . They are adults, many making good money and driving nicer vehicles than a lot of the folks sitting in the stands watching them. Which btw, is absolutely fine, but they shouldn’t be coddled if they continuously have the same issue arise

Good ol’ Mack .. taking accountability for their lack of coaching and not being ready to play. Hmm ..maybe we should invest in mirrors for Dabo and staff, it’s not the 1.5%, and the coaches have crooked fingers from pointing blame in all different directions other to themselves.

From my childhood, I was called out by my Mom for causing

us to be late for church. Mom told that to my Sunday School teacher right in front of me! The nerve and gall of my Mom!

Guess what. I was not the reason we were late to church again, ever! And, guess what, my parents raised me to be an upstanding and responsible man. Guess what else, I LOVE my parents, and I am thankful EVERY day for the way I was raised. My brother has done the same with his children. And, his children are doing the same with theirs.

I know my experience is not unique. And, I believe Cade's parents probably raised him well, also.

I hope he learned from his mistakes, both this Saturday's rogueness and the screen pass against FSU in OT, and sets his mind to improve. He took responsibility for both. Dabo simply pointed out fact.

"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." -John Newton
