The extent that the Right are willing to go.

Aug 16, 2021, 10:02 PM

Now they're criticizing Biden for not risking more American's getting killed in Afghanistan.

They're celebrating the Taliban because they "stuck to the libs".

Patriotism and the Right seem to be mutually exclusive.

"“To be honest, the Taliban is epic,” said a popular white-nationalist commentator on Telegram, in a post viewed over 2,000 times. “The US had to invade in the early 2000s and stay over 20 years, spending $1 trillion dollars, and dozens of American lives to hold them back. As soon as we left, the Taliban took over the whole country in like 12 hours. LMAO.”

“I celebrate every time the [the U.S. government] is embarrassed. You should too.”"

My bad, I should have said 'far-right'.

Are you saying that Steven Miller isn't a white nationalist?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, I never said that.

Aug 17, 2021, 2:27 PM

But I understand now why you think the right might say something like that: You aren't intellectually honest enough to admit that a white nationalist is actually not part of what most reasonable people would consider the right.

I buy that, just as no reasonable person would consider Antifa the left. Unfortunately for all of us, both groups have been elevated by "profit at any cost" Media, and that would include Fox and especially MSNBC.

But here we are.

Now whose being intellectually dishonest? This board has been throwing Antifa at the Dems and the Liberals on here since the summer of 2020. They continue to peg Antifa as an example of "the left".

Perhaps you were sleeping during that part?

If you want to do better, try facts.

I'm hoping the Taliban have one or two people have brains enough to just step aside while we do what we do to get everyone out.

Unfortunately, the Taliban has it's own factions and one U.S. commander said that many of the Taliban can't read at a 3rd-grade level or do basic math. If they want to live in the 8th century, I say let them. We should have left after bin Laden and al-Zarqawi were killed.
That is on Obama for not getting the heck out of dodge.

As we used to say in the military... "Hope" ain't a method..

Aug 17, 2021, 3:41 PM

Here is the unfortunate situation we are in right now...

The USA abandoned Bagram Air Base last month and since then there has been no immediate base from which we can provide ourselves direct combat air support or maximize military lift capacity. The only piece of dirt in that God forsaken place we "own" is inside the gates of HKI Airport. We are largely incapable of running combat ops with the limited military force and resources we have on the ground. Even with the additional 6000 troops we have limited support mechanisms for those troops should they need to create a security buffer outside the HKI gates. The continued US presence and ability to operate is mainly dependent on the benevolence of a group of 7th century minded religious fanatics.

Earlier today, John Kirby (Pentagon Spokesman) said there are between 5,000 to 10,000 American civilians who are not inside the confines of HKI. As of yesterday - all these Americans were instructed to "sit in place" and await guidance from the State Dept on how to get to HKI Airport. As of this morning the Taliban have completely surrounded HKI Airport and control all access into the American "safe space".

If you are an American hiding in some hole outside of HKI, you have to ask yourself a series of questions... Does the State Dept even know I am still in Afghanistan and where I am located? Do I trust that the US Government is going to secure me passage to HKI airport? Do I trust that the low level Taliban "guards" blocking off access to HKI will let me through to the airport even if State tells me it is OK? Keep in the back of your mind that these same low level Taliban fighters were shown chanting "Death to America" on TV yesterday and that kidnapping an American has a worth all its own to factions within the Taliban.

Just this afternoon, Jake Sullivan (the NSA to President Biden) at today's White House press briefing was asked what we could do should the Taliban not allow Americans safe passage into HKI. His answer was a jaw dropping "we can impose sanctions"... The truth is we have absolutely no leverage over the Taliban right now to allow us to get the remaining American citizens out of Afghanistan. We are in DEEP DOO-DOO as relying on all of the Taliban, from its leaders to the rank and file street fighters, to just let Americans waltz into HKI displays an insane level of stupidity. But unfortunately, that appears to the be the only plan we have at the moment.

The complete and utter failure of this "pull out of Afghanistan" by the White House, Stated Dept, and Pentagon is one of the worst disasters I have ever seen. I've attended all the military "planning and strategy schools" including the US Army War College and the mistakes in planning and execution that we are witnessing in this debacle is beneath ROTC cadet level planning skills. Secretary Austin and General Milley should be fired immediately.

It will be a minor miracle if we can get out of this debacle without some Americans being severely beaten, killed or taken hostage.

There is no doubt that the exit is a clusterfluck. That lands squarely at Biden's feet.

Just as Trump's continuation of the war for 4 more years and then, signing the terms of surrender with the Taliban on Feb 29, 2020, with the promise of having US troops out by May 1, 2021.
