I don't think they are trying to build via the portal. They were able to use it to get better until recruiting classes get better.

In Orange Bowl if Glenn gets hurt or is ineffective, the two back ups are a RB and a WR who will run wildcat all game.
But, as for one year mercenaries, Tate was the first player Norvell recruited. He's been with the program for 4 years. Norvell offered him a ship about 48 hours after getting the job.

Loyalty needs to go both ways. Read his reason for leaving. Norvell was and is actively looking for a starting QB for next year so if no Loyalty is being shown to him why should he show Loyalty to them?

It’s clear Norvell has his transfer QB lined up of this would have never happened. Dabo right or wrong would have not brought another QB in to play in front of his second man. Let’s see whose decisions work best in the LONG RUN. Dabo is not about the temporary but the long haul.

So, any idea why Tate is leaving?
It looks like they need to go get two more QBs between now and summer practice.
Looking like Miami is going to be way ahead of FSU a year or two from now. They are doing a much better job of building a long-term program.

Yes, that is the most likely logic Tate has.
I get the feeling that Norvell is building a team highlighted by a series of one and done mercenaries. Without depth if a couple guys get hurt and/or a couple guys leave early, you are screwed.
He did get two years out of Jared verse, and that was really good news. But they did not have a good depth this year and it looks like same story for 2024.
