OK I could be totally wrong about this but when I watch the pros vice us, there are several main differences I see. First thing I see is that the blocking is designed to allow the quarterback to step up in the pocket. There are several advantages to this: First, once the defenders have passed the quarterback, they have lost their advantage by trying to turn around. This is especially true of speed rushers. The O line also now has time to recover. This requires a very different method of blocking I would think. Secondly, the field of view is significantly improved especially for a quarterback that is not 6’5”. And it gives the linebackers pause because if they turn their backs to cover slot receivers and/or tight ends, the option to run opens up, not usually for long gains but enough for first downs. It also seems to me that we need to have motion on nearly every play. The Chad used that very effectively during his tenure. Also, it seems that they are not teaching the quarterbacks to throw receivers open. Example, on longer passes, it seems they always try to throw straight to where the receiver is running even when he is covered. Throwing to the side away from the coverage is way more effective. Usually only the receiver can see this. Also, the pass doesn't have to be nearly as pinpoint. Lastly, the back shoulder throw, when timed right is virtually impossible to defend against without getting a penalty (assuming refs know how to call penalties any more). A couple of those completions and the stop and go is wide open. Just ramblings from an admitted buffoon.
