THE DAY HAS ARRIVED

I have prepared a soliloquy for this glorious occasion (well, not really, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want to say so I'm just gonna wing it as I write.) Gentlemen, the glorious crusade is upon us once again. The undying quest to finally bring a national championship in baseball home to Dear Old Clemson where it is destined to be. Take off your trusty caps for a moment boys, and hold them by the brim with the "C" facing you. Now, rotate it horizontally 180 degrees and look at the back. What does it say, gentlemen? What does it say?

IT SAYS OMAHA, BY GOLLY!! You know why? Because Omaha is where we are going! Omaha is where we BELONG. Omaha is our DESTINY. I know we've been there TWELVE times before and somehow gotten nothing to show for it, but you know what that means? In perfect baseball parlance, it means were due. We've BEEN due. There will be NO peace until the pain of having no national championships to validate all of those College World Series appearances is finally expunged.

I don't care how many SEC fans laugh at us because we have "Omaha" written on the back of our caps despite the fact that we haven't been there since 2010. Let them laugh; let them mock and jeer in their ignorance. They don't have what we have. They can't be what we are. (For starters, most of us can read.) You see, what we have is something that goes beyond just winning and losing. Something you don't feel until you arrive at the Doug, smell the Cajun Cafe, get your favorite overpriced hotdog and maybe a giant pretzel and some dippindots, hear the crack of the bat, and sit down with your lineup card surrounded your best friends yelling "terrible" at the home plate ump in thick Southern accents. I don't care if we never make it back, those caps will ALWAYS say Omaha because that is your destiny, brethren. IT IS YOUR DESTINY! BELIEVE IT! So wear 'em with pride.

You see, Clemson baseball is not a pastime. It is not a mere casual pleasure. And despite what some people believe, it is most definitely NOT just a means of passing the time until football season. Clemson baseball is a purpose, it is a passion, it is a way of being. For the true Clemson fan, CLEMSON BASEBALL IS LIFE! It is life, I tell you! This program is not cursed! This team is not jinxed! The Tigers ARE capable of winning game 2 of a regional at home. They are! You know how I know? Because I CHOOSE to believe it!! And you should, too. Not because of logic. Not because of history. But because this is Clemson baseball gosh dang it, and it's opening day, and if that doesn't give you a true lust for life, then your heart must not be beating. My friends, the road, no no, the glorious crusade to Omaha starts with game 1 in Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Hope to see many of you there. Happy opening day, everybody.
