Pac 12/Big 10
SEC/Big 12
ACC and Big East are left out. The Sugar wants the Big 12/SEC deal. You don't think the Sugar knew about expansion involving FSU and CU? You don't think this alignment would be going down if the Big XII wasn't added these names?

a conf champion not in Top 6 and/or ACC champion higher than one.
They still play their conference championship games which leaves room for upset and not playing in game. VT would have been in this year if we had lost to them in ACC championship game.
Not having the top 4 by formula is good for ACC/ good from a legal aspect/bad for SEC. SEC will end up demanding expansion to 8 or 16 so they can get more teams in the next time BCS is subject to change. Undefeated or 1-loss ACC teams will have ample opportunity to make 4 team playoff.

before the D-1 transformation is complete. 64 big boys and everybody else.
SEC has 2 slots left
Pac-12 has 4
Big 10 has 4
Big 12 has 6
About 25 or so schools (The 14 ACC schools, 8 (or however many) Big East, Notre Dame, BYU, Boise, and maybe a couple others) will be fighting each other to fill those slots.

Per CBS this is only to happen if neither conference has a team playing in the National Championship game...so based on history this matchup will not happen very often.

let more details come out about this first...
Bottom line, you are seeing public evidence of the top 4 conferences aligning. Why is this going down now? Big XII is only at 10 teams.
Because the people that need to know, know what's about to go down.
