POLL: Your Feelings If A Tiger Player Protested the Anthem

Sep 9, 2016, 1:37 PM

I have to tell you that I don't like to see athletes/Entertainers using a captive audience of a game/event where people have paid money to watch an event without a hassle. as a platform for whatever cause has them wound up. While most of the causes worthy, there is a time an place for everything. Some people like me will just fuss while others may take a stronger stance like boycotting.

I wonder how folks here would feel if a Clemson Player decided to take a knee or sit on the bench during the national anthem?

How Would You Respond To A Clemson Football Player Protesting the Anthem?    [Results]

Nothing. It is his Right.
Blow up Tignet but still support Clemson
Stop watching/Attending Games until the protest stops
Contact Dabo's Office to File A complaint
No Worry's: Dabo would bench the player or cut him from team.

not saying I agree with his stand, but ultimately he has the right to do whatever he wants.

My main issue with Kaepernick was him talking about oppression as his reason for not standing yet he wears a Fidel Castro shirt and Malcolm X hat. To me that disqualifies anything he has to say about oppression in our country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

how are Malcolm X and Fidel Castro equal?

Sep 9, 2016, 2:21 PM

they stood for opposite things

Sep 9, 2016, 2:55 PM

but X was apart of the black muslim group nation of islam that indoctrinated their followers with "black supremacy" so in a way to me he cant talk about black oppression. If their core belief was black power then they stood for oppression against anything but black.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah I mentioned the Castro thing to someone on twitter

Where in the hell did you get your information. This is part if the problem, you had to make this up.

Malcom stood against oppression. Black Power does not mean black supremacy.

I'm not letting any of this "protest the anthem because black lives matter" get me worked up one way or another. I don't think sitting for a national anthem is right because the national anthem, our country as it is founded, is not the problem. But that doesn't mean there isn't a problem, and if players choose that outlet then I'm not going to say they are unpatriotic or bad Americans. So, I'd be OK with it, but I wish they'd come up with a different form of protest that made more aligned with the actual situation. America is the greatest country to live in no matter your race, I think ( white guy here)

Totally agree with you. I think that's why I feel this protest of the national anthem doesn't really make sense to me. Good point and +1 for reminding me of that incredible story

Some of you little children need to move out of your parents home and find some causes that are right and just; those that make you stretch the bounds of conformity and standards. As a disabled Vietnam combat Vet I served for all to be able to protest personal strong beliefs in their own way. More power to them. Burning the flag, causes my anger to rise up but is still not against the law.

Home of the Brave and Land of the Free. Don't forget it.

you're saying it makes you uncomfortable to have your middle-class white illusions about the state of the world interrupted by black athletes (and others that are in solidarity) forcing you to consider the benign exploitation of entire races in order to feed your lifestyle? I think that's the idea.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why did you have to make it racial?

Sep 9, 2016, 6:18 PM

Rich white entertainers seems to find causes once they have made their fortune and then want to shove their morality down peoples throats at venues that essentially have captive audiences...

Muhammad Ali was willing to put his boxing career on the line in the prime of his life for a cause he believed in. I don't see any of these professional activists stepping up like that..

Make racial if it will make you feel better, but this is a color-blind matter even if your blinders will not allow you to see that.

I'm all for him expressing himself however he feels.

Sep 9, 2016, 7:35 PM [ in reply to "there is a time and place for everything." ]

But perhaps, just maybe, he should sit down and think long and hard about how horrible a place it is that allows him to play a game that pays him millions of dollars to do it, all while giving him a national audience to complain?

And what has he done, other than sit down, to change what he is complaining about? And does that really change anything?

Maybe, rather than complain, he should get out and DO SOMETHING, and use his influence in a POSITIVE manner.

But I guess, and maybe I'm wrong, that's just too difficult.

Seems there are plenty of all races willing to sign up for that.

AND, let's compare the number of young black killed by cops to the number killed by other young black men, shall we? Who's doing the oppression there?

Sep 9, 2016, 9:07 PM

No one ever said otherwise! Just because people speak out about the utter stupidity behind such a lazy misguided protest that disrespects so much more than their "cause" (yes there are broken things that need to be fixed. ...no one denies that) doesn't mean they are trying to take away that person's right to be stupid.

As with much of what goes on today they are hurting their cause more than helping it by their actions.

If a Clemson player did it I honestly would think they likely gave it little serious thought and received a lot of bad advice while being influenced by the ask the media attention. They would likely think they are doing something to change the world yet truthfully tomorrow would be no different than today. They would basically (as these "professional" athletes are in my opinion ) simply be performing a selfish act in that they would FEEL like they did something making them FEEL better about themselves......when as I said....truth is they made no impact on tomorrow and likely made it that much harder to gain sympathy for their cause.

End rant
