this case I'm setting up the file on. So I go to do something I do almost every day, look for an obituary. Type the name, town, and obit and bewm, Google usually provides the obit. Usually from the funeral home's website.
Well, today I did that. Typed in the name, town, and obit, and saw an obit. Clicked on it. Site said to disable cookies. That happens sometimes, so I did. Then I got a virus warning from Norton. Looked at the obituary, and it looked wrong. Husband's name was merged into the name of the deceased. Just wasn't reading right, and I'm 99% sure it was AI generated. Reported the website and search result to Google. So on to the next search result. Another site, same AI obit, same warning to disable ad blocker.
So then I keep scrolling down, and there are several youtube videos, about the deceased passing away. She wasn't that famous, I don't think. And the youtube videos show arab guys talking about her death and reading from the same BS AI-generated incorrect obit I first saw. And the site WAS YOUTUBE, in the bar, and links, etc.
So I went to DuckDuckGo and typed in the same search, and GOT THE SAME AI/BS search results. Ok, so maybe Chrome has a virus. Went to Firefox, SAME search results. Went to DuckDuckGo in Firefox, SAME SEARCH RESULTS.
I'm virus scanning MY PC to the enth degree. I'm thinking Google has been hacked if it isn't a virus on my PC. Maybe something with the router?
So I then typed in my dad's obit using the same search format. It's still online. I got the correct results. Searched for another obit I'd found before, and everything was fine. Used the same search pattern (Name/town, SC/obit).

It's just freaky. There's even a website that appears to be a news website

like snbc.com with a little peacock (NBC) looking logo. Click the article and it's this 10-page AI generated BS that literally says nothing, like those things you see on social media that are only intended to lead you on forever.
AND, to make matters worse, keep scrolling and I can't even find a real obit.

Wifeof had a family emergency and had to rebook a flight. First hit on her phone brought up PCM travel, an airline impersonator, with a nice American Airlines logo on the page, called, rebooked thinking it was AA.com and get a rebooking fee for over $700. Now CitiBank said it was a valid charge due to giving pcm cc#, Citibank's fraud department should use good search next time, reminds me of the gamecocks.
Frank has a good video on the scam and screws wit the the scammer.

I quit using their card after the way they handled a fraudulent charge on my cc.

There is an zero day exploit out there for several models of residential routers. Some aren't going to be patched until next month.
As long as you are sure you haven't clicked on anything questionable and your scans are clean, reboot your router everytime that starts to happen. Hopefully the manufacturer will push a patch soon to help you out.
