Proposed football rule changes that will be big IMO

The NFL, and everyone else will eventually follow suit, is seriously considering 2 rule changes this off season:

1. The Hip Drop Tackle will result in a penalty and possibly disqualification because it has resulted in several injuries to high profile players this year. I hope it is not being taught as a tacking technique as it can have the same result as a horse coller. However, the problem I have will be interpretation. How will officials differentiate between a hip drop tackle and a legal tackle?

2. The other is the elemination of the touchback rule on fumbles out of the endzone. In other words, on Nate's great play against UNC, the ball would have remained with the UNC and have been placed at the 1 yard line. I don't like the change. NFL says it's too punitive and not consistent with other fumble rules.

Just quit messing with the game! Everytime you do, it gets worse...

That second one sucks! Leave it alone.***

Yep. It’s been added as an Olympic Sport.

I officiated and coached high school football. Here’s where I see it going in the next 10 years.

Phase 1 will be the elimination of tackling below the waist outside the LOS box. There’s been discussion of that for a while.

Phase 2 will be the elimination of any tackling outside the LOS box. Once beyond the LOS box, runners in possession of the ball will only need to be touched by the defender with 2 hands

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

This line of thought is correct

the hip drop tackle, which does need to be addressed in the interest of player safety, will be called similar to the way targeting penalties are called. Throw the flag, call it on the field, and then review it to be sure the correct call is being made.

Not a fan of the proposed touchback rule on fumbles out of the endzone.

...ok then, should tackling eventually be eliminated in the context of "Player's Safety"?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its a proposal only. Very hard to govern that.

I can’t imagine that will ever pass.

By the way, the other day you claimed Clemson was outside the top 20 in summed collectives. Can you please provide a source for that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I listed the sources in my response.

If I recall correctly, there were three; On3.com, Sports Illustrated and one other.

Posted on ESPN and Fox.

Didn’t say college was adopting. Only said college tends to follow NFL.

Goodell said rules committee would take up both plus eliminating the kickoff fair catch in off season.

Here’s one from NBC on hip drop. Not the one I read earlier but from yesterday.

If you like conspiracies, there could be a solid argument made that someone in an office somewhere has made the decision to kill college football. You can’t accidentally mess up one of the most popular sports in the U.S. , so the last 4 years has to be intentional.

Is it a globalist push to make soccer the nations most popular sport? Does this correlate with liberals flooding the country with illegals? Someone somewhere is screwing this up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't like either one of those.

1) is way too open to interpretation by zebras that can't even get calls right now WITH THE USE OF INSTANT REPLAY!. Case in point. I believe this was in the Buffalo / Kansas City NFL game, but not sure. Play was stopped, maybe by even coaches challenge, for review of a personal foul flag. The replay, at least to me, not only showed it to be a personal foul, but also TARGETING. What did the zebras do, AFTER watching the replay? THEY PICKED UP THE PERSONAL FOUL FLAG, AND NO TARGETING. You want these same Stevie Wonders to make determinations on what is and is not a hip drop tackle? Good luck with that.

2) This one shouldn't be changed, at all. If the offensive team fumbles the ball into, and then through the end zone, they SHOULD be penalized for it. Giving them possession back on the one yard line penalizes the DEFENSE which just made a great play! Are there Coots on this Committee that is looking at these things? Because that sounds like some Coot logic, changing that rule in that way.
