Feb 24, 2015, 9:13 AM

I never left one of their concerts without the feeling of getting my money's worth. They know/knew how to put on a spectacular show. Not the case with many so-called "legends" out there.

In my experience, Ace Frehley is second on the list of flicking guitar picks in the crowd, only behind Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick.

I'll throw out Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan

Feb 24, 2015, 9:33 AM [ in reply to Was there any redeeming music from 1977 about 1988? ]

for starters.

Van Halen first album released in 1978 - they threw out many many great albums in that 10 year span.
SRV - Double Trouble formed in 1978. He died in 1990 at the top of his game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Point. I fogot about VH.

Feb 24, 2015, 9:41 AM

He's been married to the same woman since like '95, had his whole Tequilla business and sold it, now I think he's making Whiskey. Has a bar in Mexico with his own house band. RIdes 4 wheelers from his beach front house in Mexico.

Thinking about it, I'd enjoy being Sammy Hagar, too!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Weight, you like Hagar but have no idea who the Grateful

Feb 24, 2015, 9:49 AM

Dead are? And your only experience with REM is Shiny Happy People? You should listen to more music. Also, maybe trade in that IROC-Z, bruh.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know who the Grateful Dead are.

Feb 24, 2015, 10:02 AM

But I never did drugs, so yeah..didn't listen. I mean I tried to listen to them, but since I apparently have a low attention span, I get bored with a song 10-15 minutes into it. And I mean "Touch of Grey" was awesome and all, but it was only one song.

And why would I sell the IROC? It hauls @ss and has T-Tops!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Touch of Grey....I can't decide if you're kidding...

Feb 24, 2015, 10:48 AM

I've never done a drug in my life (excluding alcohol) and love the Dead. All of their songs are not long jam songs...heck...most of their songs are not that way.

Feb 24, 2015, 11:07 AM [ in reply to Touch of Grey....I can't decide if you're kidding... ]

I don't really have an IROC, either

The dead was never my thing. I never got the jam band thing, and never saw the whole attraction to them. DIdn;t sem like music you could really get too excited about. [NOTE: THIS PART WAS SRS].

I purposefully picked the mist craptastic song I knew by them (Hello, Shiney Happy People?) to make an exaggerated point. [NOTE:THIS PART WAS SRS,TOO]

i feel like Louie Le Lip today. Does all this really need an explanation?

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Cult
The Cure
Pink Floyd (The Wall came out in 1978 I think)
Talking Heads

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wiki says The Wall came out in '79

Feb 24, 2015, 11:20 AM

and even though GNR's Appetite officially came out in mid 87, it wasn't well known until early '88..but regardless, it's pretty difficult to pin down a month and day to a decade of pretty bad music.

There were some high spots like afew that you named, but mostly, meh. Amongst all that there were about 100 hair bands, pop androgenous crap, and the beginning of boys bands and manufactured music. Grunge turned it around for a while a somewhere after that, and then I basically started only listened to local music, and now have kinda gave up on it all together.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Man, I would say 77-87 was better than most of the music...

Feb 24, 2015, 11:25 AM

70<77, at least by your standards, cause you'd have to include disco in 70-77 range.

Of course, this discussion of music is more about what you like that if the bands were "good".

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well DIsco, so yeah.

Feb 24, 2015, 11:31 AM

But look at all the other music that was put out in 70-77..Stones, Zeppelin, Beatles, Clapton, SRV, Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, and probably 100 others I can't remember/think of right now.

I just don't know how you could compare that to early 80's music. You basically named them.

Whatever.

"Back in Black" came out in 1980 I believe. They were still solid through the 80's.

Though I prefer the Bon era stuff, AC/DC withstood the usual band-killing lead singer change as well as any band ever did.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
