Brandon going to clamp down on speeders

Dec 15, 2022, 12:10 PM

11.5 miles per hour doesn't seem very fast

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is NOAA really the "Biden administration"?

Dec 15, 2022, 12:16 PM

I'm sure Biden approved this.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Looks that way

Its good that Biden is keeping such a tight lease and knows

Dec 15, 2022, 12:26 PM

what is going on in every branch of gov't.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're right ... he should figure out how to get off stages

Dec 15, 2022, 12:29 PM

without getting lost ...

Priorties.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

interesting you should say that...

Dec 15, 2022, 12:29 PM [ in reply to Its good that Biden is keeping such a tight lease and knows ]

virtually every person opposed to Biden believes he doesn't know anything that is happening.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-franc1968.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd believe he knows very little of what is going on at NOAA

Dec 15, 2022, 12:31 PM

I doubt any president would know, or care, if one of their selectees is wanting to change the boat speed limit.

Well, it's better than teaching 2nd graders about gender transition.

Cmon man….

Dec 15, 2022, 12:26 PM [ in reply to Is NOAA really the "Biden administration"? ]

It’s a federal agency under the dept of commerce, with a head that was directly nominated by Biden.

This is an effed up proposed rule—-I’m surprised your first instinct is to play semantics about who directly proposed it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not arguing that its not a stupid proposal.

Dec 15, 2022, 12:29 PM

There are a lot of stupid laws.

But trying to play this off like Brandon thought this up last week when he was in a state of semi consciousness is at best disingenuous.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s no stupider than assuming it wasn’t

Dec 15, 2022, 12:33 PM

Rubber stamped by someone in his sphere of influence. Again, the agency is a direct report to his own Cabinet. You think this one slipped through the cracks with the administration just hating the idea?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you think they passed by Brandon in his daily

Dec 15, 2022, 12:39 PM

security briefing?

"So we've got some intel changes in Ukraine, Putin has said that send if we send Patriot missiles to Ukraine, he considers it a “provocative” move that “can lead to unpredictable consequences.” , and oh yes...the NOAA chief has decided that there needs to be a speed limit on the ICW. Also, the undersecretary of the Coast Guard is also suggesting a new model of fire extinguisher be required for < 26' long pleasure craft."

srsly?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is Biden responsible for nothing his appointees do?

Dec 15, 2022, 12:47 PM

If so, that’s a new accountability model to me.

Are you really dying on the hill that chem was saying Biden suddenly woke up in a meeting and said “let’s make boats go slow” before nodding back off?

This level of pedanticism is unlike you, so if you were just going for a quick gotcha with Chem, I understand—-just LMK and I’ll back away slowly.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO this very clearly is an extension of their 'climate

Dec 15, 2022, 1:27 PM [ in reply to It’s no stupider than assuming it wasn’t ]

agenda' which is trying to eliminate everything fossil fuel related. That includes recreational boating, we've already seen them play a similar game with off-roading. Remember when Tellico got shut down because of a non native fish? Plus, I highly doubt they are as excited about the new Mercury V10's as we are.

We'll start seeing speed limits on lakes, etc. until they kill the fun to such a degree the public loses interest in it.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

None of them will be in office long enough for this to

Dec 15, 2022, 2:43 PM

occur

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well that's the problem, once the bureaucratic wheels start

Dec 15, 2022, 3:05 PM

turning there's no going back, regardless of who is in office. I'm not sure if you recall the Tellico deal maybe 15 years or so back, but those trails got shut down by the Forest Service to protect some sort of native trout. However, at the same time there was a govt. run hatchery releasing rainbow trout that directly competed with the native trout. There was never any connection made between the off-road trails and reduction of native trout. Didn't stop them from going forward with shutting down the trails though.

Similarly, haven't like almost half of the right whale strikes documented over the past few decades been by govt. vessels? So their solution to that is to regulate everyone over 35' speed? I'm sure there's some sort of non profit with an agenda helping to drive this, probably climate change related. In the case of Tellico, it was Trout Unlimited.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that guy is full of great ideas...

Dec 15, 2022, 12:17 PM

if I didn't know any better, I would think he had people offering ice cream cones in a room full of little girls with good smelling hair in exchange for wacky policy.

Re: Brandon going to clamp down on speeders

Dec 15, 2022, 12:27 PM

We are truly governed by imbeciles.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gonna be a lot of pissed off Cigarette boat owners

Dec 15, 2022, 1:35 PM

if this stupid regulation somehow makes it onto the books...

Side note - can someone please explain the Constitutional basis to where a Federal Government agency has the authority to unilaterally impose a speed limit like this? We have strayed so far from the original intent of the Commerce Clause so as to make a mockery of the Constitution...

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure who I would be more afraid to #### off

Dec 15, 2022, 1:55 PM

The poker run crowd, or the commercial fishing crowd. Both groups have people that are very, very serious about their boats, and have the money/influence to get what they want.

It would be kind of hilarious if this was the catalyst for the unraveling of federal govt. power.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Commercial fishing is ruining the fishing for the rest of us

Dec 15, 2022, 2:48 PM

Between completely depleting the resource as well as the terrible amounts of protected bycatch..they are single handedly killing fishing.

And then have the balls to complain when enough rec fisherman get together to have longliners made illegal. Conservation to commercial fishing outfits only means "what they coudldn't catch".

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does that mean that I can’t hoist the main sail?***
