Tailgating Advice Needed

Apr 21, 2012, 1:09 PM

For those of you who set up a television at your tailgate, what are the options for getting service and what is the cost associated with it?

Thanks for your help.

I think most people just bring their recievers from their house and a mobile dish. If you can find the satellite, I think you can use your reciever pretty much anywhere.

AMAZING iPhone app for this. Not sure what its called but it shows all Dish satellites and shows the closest one. Tells you the Azimuth and Zenith angles so if you have a compass its extremely easy. We use Dish and a 20-something inch tv running off of a small Honda generator (quiet and amazingly efficient).

one of these http://www.walmart.com/ip/Peak-400W-Power-Inverter/15127239, one of these http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-Indoor-Tilting-Digital-TV-Antenna/17188383, and a similar brand of one of these http://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-10dB-Video-Signal-Amplifier/11600128.

I can't get ESecPN or any cable channels, but for a relatively small investment and no monthly charges I can pick up local channels off the air about 5 seconds or so before people around me with satellite dishes. Unfortunately, I can't pick up ABC because the broadcast tower is a little over 50 miles away near Asheville. If you want to pick up ABC off the air in Clemson, you would need one of these http://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-Outdoor-60-Mile-Antenna-With-Mast-UHF-VHF-and-HDTV/872034, which would require more setup than I want to personally get into at a tailgate.

This is what we do

I use a directv sat go:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DirecTV-Z11-500-Sat-Go-Portable-Satellite-TV-System-17-LCD-1500-Retail-/120897711266?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2610aca2

on ebay you can get for around $250 this time of year. The screen is kinda small but the whole system is very compact and if you already have directv it costs no more to add than a regular reciever at your house. If you park where you can see southward it only takes about ten minutes to set up and you can run off it off a generator or better yet a deep cycle battery or one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/Xantrex-XPower-Powerpack-Portable-Source/dp/B000E6LEIC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335040524&sr=8-1

One of these batteries will power it for about 3 hours and I get at least 2 seasons worth out of one one them. (we carry two)

Hope this helps

I use a hot spot from my cell phone carrier or Clemson's free Internet and watch espn3. Can watch it on a big laptop or connect your laptop to a larger screen.
