Why does it always have to be so black and white? You are presenting a false dichotomy here.
Can they not both be courages acts? Is there some type of limit on the respect we can pass around?
You don't have to specifically care about Bruce's situation but just because someone is proud of his actions doesn't mean they are neglecting our troops.

I don't understand what Jenner's situation has to do with our military whatsoever? Who said that the two were comparable?

I have no idea what you're talking about.

For your edification:
A false dichotomy or false dilemma occurs when an argument presents two options and ignores, either purposefully or out of ignorance, other alternatives.
In general, a false dichotomy gives the impression that the two opposite options are mutually exclusive (that is, only one of them may be the case, never both) and that at least one of them is true, that is, they represent all of the possible options.
False dichotomy examples
For example, the claim that “you’re either with me, or you’re against me” is an example of a false dichotomy. This form of rhetoric is used to persuade or even threaten, but it ignores the fact that the individual or group addressed may have a neutral opinion towards the speaker. It is logically possible for someone to be neither with nor against an individual.
A more obvious example would be the claim ‘All animals are either mammals or fish.’ We could use that, with the premise ‘my pet parrot is not a mammal’ to conclude that ‘my pet parrot is a fish’. Clearly, something went wrong. The problem here is not a failure of logic in the argument form, but that the first premise is a false dichotomy. That premise is false — there are also birds, for one, as well as other groups of animals.
The OP did neither. I however made light of a tranny. I make light of Christians, injuns and old bald fat men of which I am all three. I'm a minority so I feel empowered to make light of any and all minorities. If I weren't a minority I'd feel obligated to poke fun at them even more while looking down on no one.

Yes...

OP's meme suggested that society is noticing Jenner's courage and not the courage of our soldiers. I.E. he "ignores the fact that the individual or group addressed may have a neutral opinion"
So what are you talking about?

first, it is just a joke and not worth getting insulted over, and oddly the people who the most opinionated are typically the least informed. I am not calling anyone out on this thread per say, but you will find your fair share of them in the PnR.

argue instead of celebrate life collectively as one.
I believe there is a solution to the dilemma presented by this thread; and that solution is that all military personnel be given the same surgery Jenner has.
Then they will have been given the same respect.

unfortunately lip, we are too busy fighting over the world's natural resources and establishing "developing nations" to buy our crap from us. Some people call this fighting for our freedom. But when you look at the disproportionate amount of money we spend fighting preventable heart disease(leading cause of death in this country) compared to the cost of the "war on Terror",(more americans die from peanut allergies than terrorist attacks) you soon learn that the freedom we are fighting for is for the handful of people at the top, and not necessarily about protecting the interests of every day Americans.
so yes, in essence, this country is backwards and lost.

What a crying shame we continue to think of ourselves in those ways as if any amount of money can get us to outlive the 150-year old turtles with "1/4th our brain power".
Threads like these remind me that the happiest creatures on earth are likely the pretty shiny dolphins frolicking in the waters below or the eagles soaring high above.

So Tigerbalm, you are saying that liberals are the least informed? Because they are by far the most opinionated. I'm not sure where you stand politically, I'm somewhere between f¥ck it, and I don't care, pertaining to the two parties that exist. There is a very minute difference between the two. Both are backed by the same corporations and donors, they seem to serve, especially in this day and time, to divide the people, which they are very successful at doing. Both, are essentially, one in the same, minus a few social differences.

No, courage is black and white in retrospect. Donning a dress and make up does not make one courageous at all. In fact, I would have that person evaluated for mental health disorders. Being gay is one thing, and I must admit that it does take courage to come out into the open with family and friends. However, nobody is owed a standing ovation for being gay. When someone uses courage to save a life then that person deserves recognition. It's kind of like a 2 year old telling mom and dad that he went poo poo in the potty. That necessarily doesn't deserve an applause, but nevertheless his parents will clap for him anyways. It's just ridiculous how much media attention dumb folks get in America, while the true heroes and men of valor are neglected and mistreated by the VA system. In theory, I'm pointing out how backwards our nation has become. If you're an immoral piece of dog excrement like Kanye Waste, Kim Kartrashian, or Justin Queeber then you will get movie deals, endorsements and other financial rewards for being a complete douchenozzle. I'm sick of it... I don't care if your gay, straight, bisexual, or if you have mental delusions to the point where you think you're trapped in the wrong body... Keep that $hit to yourself.

You're missing the whole point. I'm sick and tired of Americans glorifying meaningless bull$hit, and making sinful immoral actions a glamorous concept. It's not Bruce Jenner that I am attacking. It is my fellow countrymen who fail to live to a moral code of values that we as Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen fight for. I'm sick of everyone coddling Muslims when it's their retarded religion that calls for the annihilation of those who willfully choose not to believe in it. I'm sick of people advocating for gay this and lesbian that. If someone is gay or a lesbian then good for them, but I shouldn't have to be forced to embrace their agenda. Nobody deserves any sort of award or recognition for telling the public that they are a homosexual, or a woman trapped in a man's body. What did they accomplish? What self sacrifice did they make for others? How many hungry people got fed from their actions? How many diseases were cured? Did they find a resolve for peace with our nation's enemies? No, they simply got on their knees, took it in the tail pipe, and got a standing ovation for telling Oprah about it... TO H*LL WITH AMERICA... I have lived my entire life without regret until I had a harsh realization that I fought for a nation of morons.

This is the best example since we lost Stuart Scott this year. Which is really unfortunate. Met him a couple of times and they broke the mold when made that guy. They easily could have given it to him or his family and it would have made total sense. But no, they are agenda driven and only looking for ratings. It really is sad.

Nobody is scared or sacred as you stated in your previous comment. My advice would be for you to use proper grammar at the third grade level before trying to use larger words to make yourself seem intelligent. Small steps equate big achievements. Thanks in advance.

Ok participle cop, I was asking you a simple question. Wtriski displayed his lack of cooth the other night when I started a thread about my ex girlfriend getting assaulted and nearly raped, he used that as an oppurtunity to attack me personally. That is between he and I.
If you would like to discuss other things, I am game. I have no issues with people I disagree with, but you will get the same level of respect that you give me.

Well let's see. The homosexual agenda comes in many forms. For instance, if I own a Bakery and I refuse to make a homosexual cake for a homosexual wedding, I can be sued, fined, and imprisoned for racial bigotry and hate speech. In public schools in many states they are teaching elementary school children that it's okay to be gay. In my honest opinion that seems very much like an agenda to me.

I have no dog in this fight, but I believe in the idea of equal rights for everyone. We are all different, and should be allowed to openly express and live through our own personal beliefs, so long as they do not harm others.. I also see discrimination of gays as an attack on their civil liberties. Refusing to serve a gay couple is no different than refusing service on the basis of race... IMHO.
"Of liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its extent, it is unobstructed action according to our will. But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual." --Thomas Jefferson to I. Tiffany, 1819

Yes, but just because an athlete or a celebrity comes out to the public about a sexual orientation doesn't mean that the whole world should stand there in awe, and give some sort of applause. I certainly have rights as well. Who you sleep with is a choice, and if I do not want to make a homosexual cake as a Christian then there is always an option to take business elsewhere. What ever happened to the expression, "your rights end where mine begin." A person should not be required to brandish services or business to a cause that someone does not religiously believe in.

I agree... But you have every right to turn off the TV or look the other way. If we would stop watching the idiot box and spend more time talking to one another, I do not think we would be so divided right now.
i also believe our first amendment protects us from discrimination on religious grounds, so far as the law is concerned.
thanks for the response.

I saw on the news this weekend that Jenner will make upwards of $500 million dollars from doing this. Courage indeed.
I'd give more credence to the 18-19 your old kid doing this with no monetary gain. That person to me would be more courageous.
