Terrible example

Dec 29, 2017, 9:35 AM

http://www.wyff4.com/article/warming-up-your-car-before-you-get-in-it-is-against-sc-law/14510966

GREENVILLE, S.C. —

With arctic cold sweeping across the county and below-freezing temperatures expected as far south as Savannah, it’s tempting to warm up your vehicle before you get ready to drive, but if you do, you will be breaking the law.

South Carolina is one of several states that prohibits leaving keys in an unoccupied vehicle while running the engine. Other states with similar laws include Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Though it is not rigorously enforced, a fine of up to $500 is possible in some locations.

National Insurance Crime Bureau President and CEO Joe Wehrle said leaving a car running is an open invitation to a car thief.

NICB officials said law enforcers reported that a large percentage of stolen vehicles were left unattended with the keys inside.

For example, a Spartanburg County woman who was warming up her white Dodge Magnum while she loaded items into it on Wednesday lost the vehicle to three men who stole it after robbing her at gunpoint.

Stupid lady

I wish someone would steal my truck when I have the keys in it running. I drive a POS. Still a BS law though

Remote start

Dec 29, 2017, 9:40 AM

UDP's are the only ones that don't have that. They should be in prison anyway.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

One of the major selling points for me buying my Exploder***

I had one of those on a past vehicle

Dec 29, 2017, 9:50 AM [ in reply to Remote start ]

used it maybe twice.

Cold seats must be a deal for the sensitives out there.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't say seat heaters

Dec 29, 2017, 10:15 AM

I don't have those, wish I did. Red has heated seats and steering wheel in her Jeep. But remote start to defrost the windows and warm up the cabin is a positive.

you don't park in a garage or under cover?

Dec 29, 2017, 10:35 AM

how does a non-UDP ever get frost on a windshield other than a sudden snowstorm while shopping at Neiman-Marcus?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

also, recalling one of the few times I used mine.....

Dec 29, 2017, 10:44 AM

the AC was on from the day before when I got out of it.

So I had to get into the truck anyways to turn on the defroster and heater. If you don't remember to preset all that the night before, there really is no purpose to it. Unless they are programmed smarter than they used to be.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had a straight drive Integra that had it

Dec 29, 2017, 10:09 AM [ in reply to Remote start ]

Drove itself across the street once and into the woods with me chasing after it, running across the street thru traffic

would do again

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That sounds

Dec 29, 2017, 10:48 AM

hilarious.

Did you not put the parking break on or something? Would love to see someone remote start their car and it take off.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The park break was on, the key fob was in my pocket

Dec 29, 2017, 10:53 AM

somehow I cranked her up, the powerful fwd 1.8L 170HP inline 4 pulled her across the front yard, across a busy street of traffic (w/o getting hit) and me in chase not looking as I dashed across the street, hopping in the car and stopping it just in time to save it from crashing into a tree.

People stopped their cars to watch as I whipped her around and drove her back across the street to the drive way.

Ghost rode tha whip

Where the hell are the street cams of this?

Dec 29, 2017, 10:56 AM
