When I was a youngster

I crept out of the house one night and into my pickup and raced away to do some beer drinking and snake charming with the fellas. I was 17.
I crept back into the house around 0400 hours. Aside from the faint squeak of the mudroom door, all was quiet and dark.
As I weaved my way through our lovely, rambling rancher home to the staircase, I realized: "I've gotten away with it."
Until something caught my eye: the faint, red glow of a cigarette butt suspended in the darkness of our sitting room.
It was my mother. I was caught.
She took a good, long drag, and the cherry blazed red. I froze. She exhaled, paused, and said, "Son, momma's shoooore proud of you."
It was a long day.
That tee shirt reminds me of that story.

That brings back stories of a lot us. But please tell me that mom quite smoking, that was one of my proudest times of my mom when she quite. For the longest time I kept expecting to smell the smoke when I walked in her house, but she never started back. A good while after she pass away, my sisters were going through her thing and getting rid of stuff not worth keeping, and they found an unopened pack of Marlboro lights that kept just in case, but that unopened pack looked to be very old, and when they told me about it, I was even more proud of her for never starting back smoking....
