Augusta. Fun and depressing same time..

Apr 9, 2014, 8:48 PM

As someone who really enjoys golf, Masters time is always fun. Great to watch (from the tv) as I've never been. Yet it's slightly depressing knowing the chances of playing the course are impossible as best and something on my bucket list going unchecked. As someone who's got a positive outlook, really erks me I can't shake that thought. Add to it that getting a hold of tickets is a battle too. 1k for a single day being sold by people who happened to be handed down tickets and couldn't care a lick up it, just want the money. Not a fan of the system or the rejection letters from "lottery" they hold each year. Sorry fellas, just had to vent.

I have won tickets twice through the lottery

for practice rounds, and I've only been in it a few years.

If it helps, a regular poster on this board is about to play Augusta in a couple weeks, and yes I hate him for it ;)

Also, if you just go to Augusta without a ticket during a practice round you can find tickets to buy. I have been lucky and bought tickets at face value before, I had someone give me a ticket once, and another time I paid a scalper $250.

No need to be depressed, just go there and see it.

I have been blessed to play Augusta National twice

The course isn't set-up for the members nearly the same way it is set-up for the tournament but it's still Augusta and it was an awesome experience.

Go make friends with the old drunk ball sack and he might take you with him for a round.

and while on a summer trip to visit our Texas relatives, we drove past Augusta National.

Police were galore, and we learned President Eisenhower was there playing golf.

Even at that early age, I surmised that my chances of viewing, much less playing any golf course frequented by a President of the United States were going to be slim next to none.

To this day I've not been disappointed in my ability as an eight-year-old to "figure things out." Thus, TV has become one of my best friends! lol

Getting practice rounds badges isn't that difficult

Apr 10, 2014, 8:04 AM

Simply place your name and other required information in The Masters lottery. It may take a couple of years but eventually, you'll get them.

Played itTwice?

Apr 10, 2014, 8:46 AM

I've actually never known or heard someone mention getting to play. You are a lucky man sir. I'm going to keep plugging my name into the lotto system and see what happens. Plus, I've decided if I don't achieve my goal of playing it by 55, I may jump the fence with 5 clubs and see how many holes I can play before being tackled, haha. Jk. I've actually started looking into volunteering for the week every year. Really enjoyed doing it at a Quail/Wells Fargo championship but that's a tuff task as well. Ready for the tournament to kick off. I'll be eating my pimento sandwich at the office.

volunteer. Your chances of getting tickets in the lottery are much better. Every volunteer gets to play the course on a designated day, so there is a good amount of interest to volunteer.

i go watch Torrey every year out here

Apr 10, 2014, 8:58 AM

I cant imagine how great it would be to watch Masters, let alone play it. Keep plugging man....u will get there soon. Ive played Torrey twice and what a great experience it is. 2 years ago I was lucky enough to play a wounded warrior tourney at Pebble Beach. Ridiculously beautiful and difficult course. Wish I lived there in a box, LOL. Thats all I could afford but at least I would play every day on the prettiest piece of real estate Ive ever seen.

Apply for the lottery for practice round tix. You'll get in.

Apr 10, 2014, 10:09 AM

I've been the last 2 years to practice rounds because friends won them in the lottery.

As far as playing....yeah, that's never going to happen.

I have known 2 people in my life who have played & both were set up through business contacts. I used to go to the tourney every year courtesy of our main vendor based out of Augusta. That was my chance. Never happened & the company has been sold so I'm done with any chance of playing.

I suspect it is very frustrating being a big fan of a game

Apr 10, 2014, 10:31 AM

for old rich guys...when you're NOT an old rich guy.
That game isnt for you, my friend.

Stupid comment.

Apr 10, 2014, 11:02 AM

How is not being able to attend or play Augusta any different than say the Super Bowl?

Does not ever playing in the Super Bowl or attending it frustrate football fans?

Does not ever getting the chance to play a game in Death Valley make it frustrating?
