Tailgating question

Jul 17, 2012, 4:05 PM

What is the best way for a poor college student to get a tailgating spot? Collegiate club member, but looking to go in with a bunch of friends to cut the cost. Recommendations?

Buy a parking pass 2nd hand after tickets are mailed out

Jul 17, 2012, 4:08 PM

you will see plenty of passes available on here once the season tickets are mailed out. The cheapest will obviously be the big area lots like 13, 4 and Brooks Ctr.

You can also pay $100 for a season pass at Clemson Beach and ride the shuttle across the lake to campus: http://www.clemson.edu/campus-life/campus-recreation/cubeach/gameday-parking.html

How much do they usually sell for on here?

I have seen some decent ones on craigslist in the past for $500 or so.

Depends on the Lot

As an example, a Lot 2, 5 or 6 pass will generally cost you more than a Lot 4, 10 or 13 pass. I've seem them go for as little as $100 and as much as $1,000.

Don't think you'll be able to get one through IPTAY. I'd try one of the places near campus that sells spots (Friar's Tavern, the Parking Spot, the Methodist church, etc. not sure what prices run for all of those.

You've got a few options.

Jul 17, 2012, 4:19 PM

1 - Once tickets are mailed out in a couple of weeks, if your keep your eyes on the adds in Tiger Tickets, you can probably pick up a parking pass for a relatively low price.

2 - Contact IPTAY. They may not have anything available but it is worth a shot.

3 - Try some of the privately owned lots near campus. The place just below the Esso Club going toward the bridge where Perimeter Road and Highway 93 intersect comes to mind (The PArking Spot). I believe it's about $800 for the year. Some of the churches also rent spaces but unless the policy has changed, the churches will not permit any alcohol on their permises.

4 - The Public Lot at Y Beach. The cost is minimal and there is a shuttle service to and from the game.

Churches

Jul 17, 2012, 4:31 PM

My 21st birthday was the Clemson-South Carolina game in 2010 and I was given a few shots by people in one of the church parking lots, so that rule has either changed, or isn't heavily enforced.

I think it's just the Baptist churches that have an issue

with alcohol seen in public.

I graduated 7 years ago...

Jul 17, 2012, 4:23 PM

So this may be a little outdated, but we used to go in every year and get a spot at what was once Explorer's (now a mexican restaurant maybe?). It was $500 for the year and we would get 10 of us so it was $50 apiece. Not sure what the current situation is at whatever it's called now.

Friar's Tavern now

The public lot at the corner of Perimeter and Cherry is great for tailgating. Has shade trees to park under and its free. I use to park there alot for easy access in and out. Just get there early before the games.
