Surprised VT game was not a sell-out

Saw a patch of empty seats is the upper corner of the stadium at kickoff.
Also, saw that the LSU fans abondoned their team by half time. Guess they wanted to drown their sorrows back at the tailgates because, as we constantly hear, it just means more in the SEC. LOL.

Always hard for fans to remember this when some "fans" don't show up or stay a few minutes. I would be very surprised if the tickets were not bought by somebody for this game.

How else do you think the University announces sellouts before the day of the game.

There is a difference between a "sell out" and the announced attendance for a game.
When I was at Clemson, the game attendance was determined by weighing the ticket stubs. Now it is done using the scanners.

Most student sections do not have assigned seats. So they move to cram into better seats in student sections

With every game on tv, and satallite dishes (not to mention streaming services) it is becoming the norm. That’s one reason why Death Valley should never get bigger than what it is now.

A VT fan next to me at the game explained that it's part of the student seating and what happens is students who are supposed to be seated there sneak into the student sections in the lower deck.

I saw this also. Both the top left corner of their large deck, and at the top of the end zone were not full. And it wasn't just at the very beginning, they stayed empty.
To be honest it shocked me a bit.

Those are student areas. They never sit there

they all just cram into other sections with their friends. Game was sold out. Even Stub-Hub did not have a single ticket left in the south end zone, and very few in the east or west stands.
