It's hard to believe that the Dems are sticking with Joe Biden. He will be 85 or 86 when he is done with a 2nd term. What a joke. It's as if they are trying to lose to Trump.

How do the Democrats convince Joe to not run?
Do they keep accelerating the speed with which Biden’s criminal behavior gets publicized in the media?
Do they try and bluff him that, after the Republican House impeaches him, that there will be enough Democrat senators to go along with the Republican senators to have him removed from office? (I call that tactic a bluff, since the Democrats don’t want Kamala to carry their water.)
How do they keep Joe as president through the end of his first term, yet simultaneously convince him that it is not in his best interest to seek re-election?
He clearly wants to run again, if for no other reason than to protect his family and himself (by virtue of POTUS constitutional powers) from suffering serious consequences after being convicted (which would take place if he was not in office and Republicans miraculously won the WH again).

I think they will pull a surprise next year to try to generate momentum with a new candidate. They have got to know that Biden is not physically or mentally able to go 5 more years. That should be obvious to any observant person.

It’s natural that candidates who get their first major air time in a multi-person debate get a bump in polls.
Trump was smart to let the 8 contenders kill each other off. Trump’s lead is still enormous.
It was useful for the Republican party that the ‘little guys’ had their voices heard. This is battle hardening process that the Democrat party is desperate to avoid.

ballot access job, if he's even still able to qualify for the ballot given the deadlines. His only shot would be to possibly run on the LP ticket, which given the current crop of leadership, is not out of the question, but still a hard sell. And the LP's ballot access this year is a huge question mark.

SC primary is end of February and a quick search looks like August is the filing deadline for most States. Hopefully, we find out but I'm still betting this is all a hypothetical just like asking what happens if Trump claims the primary was rigged.

If Trump crashes and doesn’t win the Republican nomination, then he won’t run as an independent.
He won’t have the big money donors to sustain a general election campaign if he runs as an independent, and won’t liquidate his real estate holdings and deplete his liquid assets to fund his campaign.
If he does win the Republican primary in a blowout, then he’ll get the donors that he needs.
The big question is if he squeezes through in a tight primary race to become the Republican candidate. In this circumstance, I doubt that the big money donors would cough up the money that Trump needs to conduct the general election campaign.
(*). It would get REALLY weird if an establishment Democrat competitor to Biden arose that nearly … but not actually … beats Biden in a Democrat primary race. (No, RFK Jr won’t be that guy; Democrat establishment hates this peacenik who is hostile to Big Pharma.)
In this case, Biden (the establishment candidate) would still raise big money for his general election campaign, but would not be a popular candidate … and neither would Trump.
