a lot of success running the ball for us. You can't put the guy in a protective bubble.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Like it or not, that is a primary staple of Morris's scheme

Nov 16, 2014, 5:25 AM

Just like the man he first learned it from, Gus Malzahn, the QB draw, zone read, well-timed scrambles, and the triple option play that Tajh used to run often where he could either pass straight out to Sammy or Hump, or pump fake before a QB delay or counter are an extremely integral part of this offense even after all the adjustments and tweaks that Morris made to his system to differentiate it from Malzahn's overwhelming run-oriented type of misdirection spread form of HUNH offense.

I can't even begin to explain how distraught I am over the latest injury to Deshaun Watson, but it would have been different if he had gone down after re-aggravating his prior injury. According to the word from the trainers and team medical staff, it was very unlikely that Watson would re-injure his broken finger, and just to decrease the chances even more, he had been instructed to always hold the ball in his left hand to prevent falling and catching himself on his injured hand.

The non-contact knee injury that Watson suffered on that run play can't be blamed on Morris or Dabo and the play-calling in the slightest. Because it was non-contact, the fact that he had gotten hammered on a couple run plays earlier in the game have nothing to do with the way that play happened. Furthermore, given that Watson had been completely cleared to play a standard game by the team doctors and medical staff, it would have hamstrung our offense to limit the playbook simply because there is a chance that Watson could suffer some type of freak accident. If coaches called plays based solely on the fact that there could possibly be an injury suffered by a player, then they wouldn't make it very far at any level, much less at a major FBS power 5 conference member that has been repeatedly considered to be ranked anywhere from 10th to 20th in current standing on the national level in terms of the direction the program is headed and recent success over the past 5 years.

This isn't the NFL where running your QB more than a couple times a game is simply asking for a major injury. College football at both the FBS and FCS levels is becoming more and more dominated by offenses that feature an athletic QB as an essential component of their run game. Considering the overwhelming number of running QB's present in college football today, there are actually very few who suffer major injuries. Maryland's 2012 team suffered about as many major QB injuries on their team as most of the other teams in the 5 power conferences combined.

It's possible that Morris could have used Watson a little less running the ball today, but we don't know how many of those plays were called runs or options or audibles that Watson himself checked into. But your decision to criticize him as being directly responsible for Watson's injury is dripping with anti-Morris sentiment. You don't have to be a fan of his style of offense, but to point the blame directly at Chad Morris for Watson's injury is downright incorrect.

Precisely!
I will be the first to admit I am not a fan of this offense.

But, knowing that the QB run is integral, you best plan for injuries to your QB.
To allow the Clemson program to get to this point is inexcusable.

I don't care if your 3rd string QB has a temper tantrum, you have to develop contingencies.
There is simply too much at stake.

Now, if we could just figure out how to get one of a plethora of all word wide receivers to line up at OL.

I think you nailed it when you said

that Morris had. "adjusted his scheme"... We are as far away from AU as we've ever been under Morris, scheme wise.

Yes big bob you are stupid. He did not even get hit on the play he was hurt on.
He ran him because it for the most part is a read system & that is what was open & it works great.
Ie Conner Shaw the last 4 years.
You people really are stupid or ignorant or both

Thank you! You were probably like me, cringing every time he ran. You have to protect your star player if you do not have a capable back up. It was only a matter of time the way GT was gunning for him. Just don't understand it.
