Stubhub (fees)

Aug 20, 2016, 8:17 PM

While browsing the season tickets on Stubhub (both game tickets and parking passes)I noticed that Stubhub was adding on a 15% - 20% fee. I couldn't figure out exactly what they were charging this fee for, but it was several hundred dollars for $2000 in tickets.

Anyone else notice this? I'm trying to understand what it is they're doing for this fee other than just normal brokering of a transaction.

Here's a specific example: 2 season tickets for $1798, has a $370.10 fee tacked on, for a total price of $2,168.10. Nope, nope, nope. They're adding that same high % fee to the parking season tickets too.

I think it's called "the cost of running a business". Have you ever done business with StubHub?

Most efficient bunch of people I've done business with. Never a "recording" when I call them. Been top notch every time with me.

Yes. I've used Stubhub several times... but none in the past year. What I've discovered is that the way they display their fees changed. Last year, you saw the full price with fees immediately. Now, they show the seller price, then add the fees at the checkout screen. I don't think their fees have changed, just my perception of them has changed (I noticed).

As to the "cost of running a business", my take is this: There is a point at which your margins get so high that you're losing more business than you're making in profit with the high fees. As a consumer, I feel the fee is ridiculously excessive and won't be buying tickets on Stubhub. Their technology is impressive and that ain't cheap. But for my dollar, I'll be looking at lower cost alternatives like the TNet ticket forum.

##### from Greenville that scammed so many people here. StubHub guarantees the tickets on their site. That's worth the fees alone.

Someone needs to bring this issue up to

Aug 20, 2016, 9:21 PM

Hillary and The Donald as the election approaches.

I expect Hillary would say it's very very bad for these companies to make a profit at our expense and she would promise she will not allow this to continue if she is elected president. The Donald would say it appears they've got a sound business model and he would encourage us to buy their stock so we can profit from it too. Bernie's gone now, but he would have said free tickets for everyone. :)
