Spring Improvements. It will not matter how fast the new WR's are

nor how fast or new RB's can run nor how quickly CK2 matures. It is all dependent on the development of the OL, which has sucked big eggs at Clemson for years. When DL are knocking our guards and centers back into the lap of the QB, nothing else really matters and nothing will ever work. Get that OL fixed, make em mean and nasty and all the offensive problems suddenly, magically just go away.

the role CK2 has played in our overall performance with his inability to process things quickly. Getting the OL fixed will help him a lot but he has a long way to go before he becomes the type of QB we need to get us to a national championship level.

Hopefully they work hard in the weight room during the off-season.

It requires talent too. Hopefully, the OL gets better with coaching and new players.

TE blocking (what I really mean here is lack of TE blocking) is also a big problem.

Last year, or OL was poor, but our TE blocking, thanks to Davis Allen and Sage Ennis (no thanks to Briningstool) was great.

This year, our OL blocking was better (before Marcus Tate got hurt), but was poor again starting with Tate’s season ending loss. We had only one good backup on the OL (Colin Sadler), and combined with Walker Parks early season ending loss, the loss of Tate guaranteed that one of our Guard spots would be inadequate.

No OL can perform well as a unit if even one OL player can’t hold up. Therefore, our OL play (since the loss of Tate) was relegated to mediocrity. Combined with the terrible blocking by the TE unit (exception being Sage Ennis, who was excellent), our team’s overall blocking went into the toilet after Ennis was lost for the season from his injury during GA Tech game.

UNC’s defense didn’t have a pulse. Even our diminished OL and TE units held up fine against the Heels.

S. Carolina’s defense, nothing special but better than UNC’s, essentially shut down our offense.

KY’s defense, by virtue of their numerous short (and long) TD drives + KO return for TD, and 3 TO’s in 4th Qtr by their offense, was gassed by the middle of 4th Qtr. only then was our OL + TE blocking adequate for beating KY’s defense.

(*). Summary is that the four remaining OL true starters (I.e., Leigh, Tate, Parks, and Miller) from 2023 team, plus one good backup at OL in Colin Sadler, give us a foundation for a genuinely good OL unit in 2024 … assuming the usual year-to-year improvement by an OLineman with each year’s additional experience.

If (and I do mean IF) one from among Linthicum, Paul Howard, or Harris Sewell can master the job at Center and have acquired the ability to block adequately (again, this is a big IF), then we will have a truly good OL next year.

The remaining piece of the puzzle is … can (or will) our TE’s finally start to block? If that doesn’t happen, then our skill players will never reach their potential.

“Boy, I hope the coaching staff reads your posts because they don’t have a clue!” he said facetiously.

Mafah, and he is my favorite back, but blocking is definitely in need of some work. He makes the block against FSU we probably win that game. I know you can’t blame anything on any one play but that was huge.
