Is obviously an amazing pro. He rarely produced for us dealing with injuries, yet went on to be an amazing pro.
What other examples would you classify as college underperformers being pro stars? Tom Brady is the one that comes to mind. Any others that come to mind? Hunter can be in this category as well.
Thinking more of Kurt Warner, James Harrison and Tony Romo type players.

Favre is one that comes to mind.
Did Terry Bradshaw actually do much in college?
Dwight Clark was a good player at Clemson, but nothing like his pro career.

Favre is a good one. No one expected a HOF career in the 2nd round getting traded to GB.

Bradshaw was first overall in the draft, so I'm guessing his college stats were good. Even when you are trying to pick through stats from a game that is night and day different today.

Never really had a chance at Clemson with covid and injury. Braves have good scouts, a great manager, and great owner's.

Nuk had over 3,000 yds. receiving, and 27 TDs at Clemson. He was drafted in the 1st round.

We had a player that Ken Hatfield benched. Can't remember his name but he went on to become the "Fastest Player in the NFL"

Although not an under performer but Billy Odell went straight from Clemson to the Baltimore Orioles and won 100 plus games.

Speaking of Kurt Warner, if you have not seen his movie...

American Underdog then fix this right away. I never knew the situation he came up from to get to the NFL. All I can say is that dude is tough!
Spencer Strider is a baller for sure. I hope the Braves can keep building a dominant rotation with Strider at its core.

Re: Spencer Strider … Charlie Waters

Clemson’s Charlie Waters had an OK college career.
Didn’t do much until his senior year. As a senior, he was all ACC in 1969, so he was indeed a good (not great, but good) player.
As a NFL player with Dallas Cowboys, he was mediocre at CB, then was moved to Strong Safety. Poof! Charlie Waters became a 3x Pro Bowl player and was All Pro twice.

Vince Carter was a fairly average player at UNC

But he was regarded highly by pro scouts because of his elite athleticism (taken 5th overall). I don't know if that counts or not.
There are tons of examples of unheralded players from smaller schools becoming pro stars. I think what you are looking for though are players from major programs that didn't take off until they got to the pros.

Tom Brady was actually pretty darn good in college

The pro scouts just discounted him because he wasn't athletic.

Some Clemson examples...
Jul 9, 2023, 12:06 PM
|
|
Jeff Bostic comes to mind. He had a good career at Clemson but was overshadowed by brother Joe, who was an All American. Jeff went on to play on multiple Super Bowl teams as a member of the Redskins' infamous "Hogs" offensive line.
Kevin Mack played nine seasons with the Browns after, again, a good career at Clemson, but not one that suggested a nine-year NFL career. He really bulked up and became a mainstay for some pretty good Cleveland teams.
