Spencer Region...Any word on him?

Aug 19, 2013, 3:20 PM

I haven't heard / seen anything about the guy. Is he coming along or is his weight still too high? Seems like he could be a big body for us on the line, but for whatever reason the "light" hasn't come on. Is he just destined to be a back-up guy while at Clemson?

He is thrilled he didn't sign with an SEC team

Aug 19, 2013, 3:25 PM

They would have cut him...err, suggested strongly that he play elsewhere, after last season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very disappointed in his progression.

Aug 19, 2013, 3:27 PM

I remember being excited to have this guy when we signed him....he has yet to step up.

He may not be abe to help it

Aug 19, 2013, 3:38 PM

Maybe a problem he can't over come his whole life, which is sad

Eat less, exercise more

Aug 19, 2013, 3:43 PM

Unless it's glandular, which can be controlled by meds, that would be the general plan for losing weight. So the question becomes, does he love cheeseburgers more than he loves football, and if so, why is he still on scholarship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As I understand it, he is still battling his weight....

Aug 19, 2013, 3:34 PM

and while it has improved, he has not gotten to the level where the coaches want and need for him to be.

got set back by hip surgery; hope he gets it under control

Aug 19, 2013, 3:37 PM

after he's healthy again.

Yes which did not help his weight situation***

Which may have been caused by his weight situation

Aug 19, 2013, 3:45 PM

and if not directly caused by his weight, it certainly contributed. Carrying around 350+ is tough on joints.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Indeed***

He is still the victim on message board judgment because of

Aug 19, 2013, 3:44 PM

the sliver of info we get regarding his weight issues.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's not even on the depth chart

Aug 19, 2013, 3:47 PM

He has been passed by everyone. He might be a victim of the expectations people have of Division 1 athletes, but if he's taking a scholarship, he should be expected to be in good enough shape to contribute. It's tough, but that's life at the top of the pile D1 football. Scholarships are important, and if you can't contribute at all, you're hurting the team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

^So do you think he'll be cut?

Aug 19, 2013, 3:50 PM

Or do you think he should be cut? Or give him one more year?

I agree, if he is at the bottom of the depth chart, and will never play, except in mop-up duty, maybe the coaches should cut their losses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Like I said above, he's glad he didn't sign with an SEC team

Aug 19, 2013, 3:52 PM

He won't be cut, but if he wants to play he might consider transferring to a smaller school. I'm not certain that he wants to play.

I don't think that Dabo has ever taken a scholarship has he?

How many medical red shirts can a player have. Hopefully answer isn't just one. He could be graduated before he ever steps on the field in a real game.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It depends

Aug 19, 2013, 4:38 PM

He might actually qualify for a med redshirt and 6th year, if his injury keeps him off the field this season, although I'm not sure if stringing a guy along who never plays is a good use a scholarship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has played although sparingly....

Aug 19, 2013, 4:51 PM

As a reserve he played 61 snaps over three games (36 snaps against Ball State which was his first career game, 18 snaps against Furman, and 7 snaps against Duke.

Aug 19, 2013, 5:25 PM

So NEVER in any game that counted?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was on the XP team...

Aug 19, 2013, 6:01 PM

I remember us having to take a timeout at FSU because he wasn't on the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Somehow, I think all 3 of those games did count..

Aug 19, 2013, 7:53 PM [ in reply to Re: He has played although sparingly.... ]

as wins on our record. If you think only big games count, I guess you are correct.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's big ---- reallll big.***

Heard he would be moving to the secondary...coaches say the ball gravitates toward him.
