Sounds like Jack had a rough day---his fault or kids?

May 18, 2013, 9:53 PM

I've seen nothing but complaints about how Jack "lost" the series with FSU...tons of questionable moves & decisions. Here's the question: Was he asking his young players to do more than they were capable of OR was it just bad coaching? Sometimes you do the right thing, but with the wrong personnel & it looks stupid to the casual fan. IDK because I didn't see the games on TV.

Bases loaded no outs and nobody can hit a deep fly ball or get a hit. That's not his fault.

33 and 3 at home would probably lead most anyone with a pea for a brain to realize that. we got one of them 3 and could easily have gotten 2 more but yes they are pretty good at home

I'll put it this way; I hate that we lost this series, but

Luckily it hardly ever happens that a team gets 13 hits and1 run. Many things contribute. Good pitching, kids getting a little trigger happy. It just rarely happens but it just does now and again.

This loss isn't on Jack

May 18, 2013, 11:34 PM

Bases loaded twice, once with no outs... and zero runs. That isn't Jack's fault. He had to be frustrated watching his guys take strike after strike right down the middle. There were at least 4 pitches, any of which should have been a grand slam. That's not on Jack; that's just plain timidity on the part of the batters.

We have been losing games with poor fundamentals and

questionable coaching moves for 15 years. It has gotten increasingly worse over the past 10 years. When you see the same fundamental flaws and same coaching errors season after season, team after team, it's pretty hard to point the finger anywhere other than at Jack!! It's his program and it has gradually declined from the peak, which was when he inherited the program from Wilhelm.

Dont really know what JL could have done different today.

Only questionable decision was the PH move but that didnt cost us the game. Guys not getting clutch hits cost us the game.

I agree...he used the PH to get the right on left matchup but Maleeke was in the zone at the plate yesterday. bases loaded twice (once with no outs) with no runs scored. Maybe this will fire the team up and push them to their best at the ACC tournament / regional playoffs.

I would have used the pinch hitter in the number nine spot and not the lead off spot. A righty/lefty was the right move but the last batter watched two good strikes go by without a swing. You can't do that with no outs and the bases loaded. The lead off batter had two very good at bats in previous trips to the plate and he has good speed. I also would have walked the batter in the eighth with men on second and third and hope for a double play ball. Instead we pitched to him and gave up two additional runs. The next two batters made outs. Easy to make these comments after the fact!
Hopefully we will hit better in the clutch in the tourney.

Good grief!!! Take a chill pill and lay off Jack....for a day or two.

simply failed to hit in the clutch. I question the use of baum as a pinch hitter but other than that it was just one of those days you have in baseball.

And you have to give FSU some credit. We were not playing the sisters of the poor.

Re: There may have been other issues but we were out hit

May 19, 2013, 1:54 PM

uh we had 7 hits to 5 on friday and both teams had 13 hits yesterday. i guess getting outhit is different where you live. difference yesterday was we could not do anything with the risp. that is runners in scoring position if you did not know.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like the Braves

May 19, 2013, 4:31 PM

Recently their RISP was .215 during their last roadtrip and the at-bats showed something like 35 for 77 of those were strikeouts. You don't put the ball in play, then you are guaranteed nothing good will happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like jack

May 19, 2013, 7:28 PM

but it was bad coaching. we had the lead off batter on base several times and didn't bunt them over. We also had runners on first and second with no outs and didn't bunt them over, and last but not least he sent runners at bad times. I understand being aggressive considering our success stealing bases in the first game.
