Men's Soccer teams had in common was that they never won the ACC Championship(the automatic qualifier) that particular season

we never had an opportunity to play for an ACC Soccer Tournament championship in 1984 because the tournament didn't exist yet. 1987 was the first year the ACC soccer tournament was held.

In the 1987 ACC Tournament, we lost to North Carolina 2-1 in OT. However, we would enact a little revenge one month later by beating the Tar Holes 4 - 1 in the semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament.

Yea I knew the ACC Champion back in those days were decided in the regular season
