Someone asked about glory days of ACC yesterday

I think they brought up past football games but I’ll stay with basketball. Seeing Marquette on the round of 32 took me back to Al McGuire days. And for me those mid 70’s to into the 80’s were definitely the best. Same with NBA. I could care less now about it but I’ll take the matchups from that decade anytime. There were some classics.

Agreed! It was still about player pride then!***

1970ish to 1990ish.

1. Nothing compared to intensity back in the days you had to win the ACC tourney to get into th NCAA tourney. (Ralph Sampson never played in the NCAA Tourney.)

2. Dean Smith, Lefty Driesell, and then the new kid, Mike Something, came on the scene.

Those were definitely the glory days.

Every age group probably differs, that’s why my favorite ACC basketball was the 60’s. You had to win the ACC tournament to move on, the 4 corners of Dean Smith and Phil Ford (most hated it but it was exciting). Remember the USuC game that was a 11-8 final score? Just loved seeing Frank McGuire’s teams getting knocked off in the regionals by Furman 2 out of 3 years. We didn’t win much then either, but it was still more exciting. The good thing was we didn’t have to carry too much luggage for just one night.

I agree, my era as well. I was on the Speakers Bureau when we brought Al McGuire to Clemson. He was pretty cool to listen to but after a couple of drinks, he started hitting on one of our ladies who was also on Speakers Bureau and a former Clemson Homecoming queen. Not so cool...

Mid 70s to mid 80s were absolutely the best. Of course I know I am biased because I was at Clemson from 80-85, but there was phenomenal basketball played in that time period. And it was basketball which was actually officiated. Basketball has changed since then to mimic the stupid pro game that they call basketball.
Just my opinion...
Go Tigers!!!
