So why sponsor or advertise in a bowl

when the team that rolls into town looks nothing like the team that played well enough to get there in the first place?

"... a dozen Louisville players and nearly two dozen USC players have chosen not to participate in Wednesday night’s game at Petco Park."

These bowls are gonna have to either shut it down altogether or lawyer up to protect their own brands by forcing teams/conferences to limit opt-outs and early portal entries.

Because who wants to watch the second stringers scrimmage?!

Gosh this game's becoming soulless.

The bowls cannot force the school's to block players from entering the transfer portal. This is a player's right and stated by the Supreme Court.

The number of bowl games now is staggering, and in my personal opinion there's too many. It's watered down what it means to make a bowl game when basically every single team with 6+ wins now makes one. I'd like to see it go back to 20 bowls max where they are of a reward for a good season rather than participation trophies.

However, these sponsors must be seeing a return on their investments or they wouldn't keep sponsoring these bowl games. As long as they are seeing that return they'll continue, and we'll continue to have 43 bowl games.

If you don't like watching 2nd stringers play because of opt-outs; don't watch. Enough people stop watching then some of these bowls might start shutting down and we'll see them become more important again.

I do not like this "Playoffs or bust" mentality. Of 133 schools, the playoffs is not even a consideration for 100 of them, even after we go to 12 teams. But you can't blame the players for wanting to protect their future earnings, especially those that are a lock to be a high draft pick (1-2nd rounders).

The Supreme Court ruled on NIL. They did not rule on the transfer portal. The NCAA created that mess and took it upon themselves to remove the one-year sit out requirement.

The schools generally lose money going to lower tier bowls. The local organizers make some money as well local businesses. Sponsors and advertisers must get some fan interest. The gate revenues look weak based on fans on TV. The opt outs and transfers will likely cause the number of games to decrease.
I expect our Gator Bowl to be a dud. Many teams in bowls are materially different now. Clemson's defense is not close to the same unit.

Because people still watch on tv.***

Nailed it! The games thus far have been an embarrassment to the game.

Don't think the sponsors care about the quality of the teams. they just want to get their names out there.

37% of all TV viewing is on sporting events. With that number being as high as it is, they have a lot of airtime to fill. Obviously they are getting some type of return on their investment. I am sure the 4 letter network packages other programming advertising in these bowl packages they sell.

I guess it also helps that brands have ad spend
