We played for national championship four years ago.
Finished 4th three years ago.
We’re 4th in wins for P5 programs on the last three seasons and 5th on the last two.

The truth is we are losing ballgames because recruiting has fell off what it was. Get better players and all these BS excuses go away.
JK when we get another 2 time national championship coach get back to us on what one may or may not get away with.

Better players want to play for position coaches who have proven track records of putting their players in the NFL.

Interesting story about Bill Spiers…
He was on baseball team but not football. Danny Ford was not happy with the punters he had on the team. So Danny opens up a campus-wide tryout to find a competent punter. Spiers came out on top, and eventually became an All-ACC selection. Spiers was an old style huge 3-step punter. He really wound it up. His style would not fly nowadays. I believe he got on staff by coming back to finish his degree while his son was here as punter? I guess he left early to play MLB.

Good game to see Bill in action. Great pre-game comments from Musberger about the hill and rock and the tradition. I love what Dabo has done but boy I miss a lot about Clemson football of the 80’s too… how the team ran down the hill like a band on bada$$e$ on a mission- no skipping or show boating, our lines put their hands in the dirt and mashed the opposing team all afternoon, until they broke. Those are some good memories.

Another interesting factoid about this game is Drake Maye’s Dad, Mark Maye, was the UNC QB in this game. Very good QB. UNC had tough teams in those days.
Trying to add some positive info to this otherwise horrible OP.

Are the reason tweets like that get any traction.
Our special teams is typically fantastic. One year we have a very talented young kicker hit an untimely slump, so now we need a scapegoat.
Sorry Spiers.

I think our special teams have been a tad above average in last 10 years. When was last time we blocked a punt? When was last time we ran a punt return or kickoff for TD? Punts we mostly fair catch them and we arent great at that either. I would love to have a special teams coach and not have it shared among position coaches.

Fantastic? LOL, no. We occasionally hit on a kicker or punter but overall special teams are usually mediocre. When is the last time we returned a kick-off for a TD? (A: 2011) If it makes you feel better, I don't solely blame Spiers. I also blame this guy; Special Teams Analyst - Jody Evans. Jody was Dabo's roommate at Alabama. But I am SURE it is just coincidence that our special teams are an absolute liability this year and two of the people in charge of them are Dabo's BIL and former college roomie. "best is the standard".

Will's last season punting was Bill's first season as director of special teams. Bill was a senior special teams assistant for 3 years prior to that. He probably would have coached his son even if he wasn't on staff, though.
