Despite consecutive "Butt cuttin's" I don't think "Big Game Bob" would say that respects Venables too much, The old, head ball QUITTER is too self centered to admit anyone could steal from him....he's a genius, if you don't believe it, just ask him. I'm betting either Scott Schaffer(ex-Syracuse coach) or Larry Fedora. Both seem classless but then you could add Paul Johnson. When you're a winner, everybody hates you...ain't it's great to be hated!

(1) The article never says it's a head coach; in fact I'm willing to wager that these "anonymous coach" interviews are *never* the head coach. It could be the assistant graduate student in charge of towels; SI is just looking for a juicy sound bite.
(2) Sour grapes.
(3) Unlike baseball, there's no honor code in football about stealing signals. I seem to recall a recent game not too long ago...WVU Orange Bowl, maybe, though I'm not sure...where there was open speculation during and after the game that the opposition had stolen our signals and calls. So? Get better at concealing your signals.

I played baseball a long time and at every level and there is no honor code. If you were caught peeking in at the catchers signals, you took a risk of getting beamed at 95 mph at that at bat or one down the road. It is not worth the look. When a runner is on second they mix up the signs so there are no giveaways. It's easy for a runner on 2nd to give ball placement, but that puts him at risk of getting picked off by focusing on catcher. Also could give the pitcher an advantage if he catches on that it is being given away. And on every team there are designated signal guys that their job that game is to decipher the other teams signals. If ever deciphered it gave you about an inning of an advantage. Soon as the opposing team finds out they switch up the "key" and that starts the whole process over.
