When the D is playing zone and the receiver runs a fly route down the field, you want to throw the ball straight at the receiver or a little bit behind him instead of trying to lead him down the field when the zone is in the way of the route. The concept is when the D is playing zone, you want to throw the ball into open space, making it harder for the D to intercept the ball.

This is what my 11 year old just explained to me.
