today they (Selection Committee) met to discuss going to 16 teams in 2026.
And as Josh Pate of LateKick.com says, there will be 20 play-off teams b/4 you can blink since it means $.

Josh is pretty good at reading the tea leaves. I like his stuff. That said, I can see this essentially becoming a 64 team playoff. Kinda like what Dabo eluded to. 64 top football teams. From the 64 teams, the playoffs will be like the NFL and the teams play each other during the regular season. Then you have division like sec south, b1g west sec east, Midwest etc.

The majority of college FB fans will have lost interest in college football that has already been watered down before it ever gets to what you're talking about. As much as I've loved the sport over the years, and I would watch about any game that was on TV, but for me today I will only watch Clemson FB!!!

My format suggestion was to have five 16 member conferences with 2 divisions. Take the 10 division Champs (no conf championship game) and 6 at large teams(one could be the highest ranked G5 & ND has a path) for the playoff. Rebalance the divisions every 3-4 years to keep one side from dominating like ACC, SEC and B1G Everhowmanys have been before UGA broke through. Since they aren't really rewarding conference champions this evens out the number of games. The SEC and B1G have muddied the water but maybe they get 3 divisions each.

The more the playoff expands…the less the regular season matters.
Another thing that used to be unique about college football. Gone.
Oh wait… they already told us this year that the regular season doesn’t matter, when FSU was left out.

Here’s an idea. Break all teams into conferences of 8 teams. Basically 64 major college football teams. Then have an 8 team playoff of conference champions.
It would give some meaning to winning the football national championship.

Well…
The first part of that sounds about like what we had 30 or so years ago!
Remember when the ACC had 8 teams?
And the Big 12 was the Big 8.
Etc.
And then you’d just be adding the 8 team playoff to the end.
I’d take it!

Here's the solution to the playoff system.

56 teams form 8 divisions of 7 teams each.
Schedule is cut to 10 games.
16 team playoff.
Fewer games means fewer injuries.
More playoffs means enough money distributed among the 56 teams to make up for the two lost games.
Not gonna happen. Just throwing it out there.

BC at some point the line has to be drawn.
Is it about the pageantry of the college game in conjunction with traditions, rivalries and the "students athletes "
Or
Is it about becoming a semi pro league or worst yet... the XFL .... college version.
If it is the later then they are saying the past is irrelevant so prepare for the AAU version of the college game we loved
