disease these days. This rise in numbers of these has GOT to be tied to something that was added (or subtracted) from our diets years ago. That may sound like a conspiracy theory, but I firmly believe it. Either it's a chemical or specific combination of chemicals, maybe used in fertilizer, weed killers, etc that first came into vogue about 40 years ago, and the cummulative effect of all that long term exposure is just now being felt, or it was something that was REMOVED from our everyday diets. (Bacon bacon bacon?)

If that is the case, things are going to get a whole lot worse in the next few years on these fronts. Maybe research will gear up, and somehow a valid treatment will come down the pike that could possibly reverse these scourges, or at the very least halt further advance once a diagnosis is made. As the old commercials said, A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste.

If not used, it’ll weaken and wither away.

Considering the absence of common sense and intelligence of most people nowadays.

You should give a lot to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America

Add autism to the list. My answer would be chinese made toys, utensils, cups, etc. Look at the spikes after we started buying EVERYTHING from them.

Even back when about everything was painted with lead base paint, we didn't hear about all the cases of autism that we hear about today. I know that the bigger the population, the more there will be, but the baby boomers had a lot more kids than parents have today, and the autism rate seems awful high in today's society!!!

public schools and had only 2 kids who had autism in that district. In the last 10 years, I test several each month and most of them have more severe symptoms than those two.

Always felt the preservatives of all the stuff we buy in the grocery store, excluding the outer walls such as produce, meats and dairy, are poison. But dang that’s a lot of good snack foods.

Also some medical guru on here may be able to tell us if the vaccines we had as kids were different than the previous couple of generations. Always been curious in regards to those. Seems kids are sickly these days in comparison to when I was in school.

I’m with you it seems to be pretty bad and I have seen what I would consider smart people get it as well. Sad and hoping I don’t go that way but at my age and the forgetfulness I currently deal with it seems it could be in my future.

However the grocery store prices are making it real easy to pass on those good snack foods. Almost 5 bucks for a bag of Lay's potato chips today and it's not even the family size.

"Vaccines as kids"? I had smallpox and polio vaccines, that's it.
People my age and older should be the control group maybe.
I reckon I am really, really oldish.

Keep in mind that we are living longer and many other causes of early death such as heart failure (to some degree), bacterial and viral disease, some cancer, etc., are not taking as many of us at a younger age.

There's no easy answer to any of these. Glad folks smarter than me are doing the research to try to control these. Just lost my mother-in-law to dementia of some sort in December and watching her decline over several years was painful.

Same with my mother In Law before she died, everything she said come from her childhood memory, and it was really sad to watch, and I was the one that took care of her every day for her last 6 months of life. I was the one that had to tell her kids to not try and correct her about what she would say bc she really didn't know that her mind had taken her back to her early years of life. To her everything she said was in the now...

I'll tell ya that I truly loved that old woman, and there were days that it crushed my heart to see and hear how Dementia had taken over her mind. I'm pretty sure my tears rolled across my cheeks every day while taking care of her...

They have come a long way with fixing what use to strike down people in an instant, and that was heart attacks. Heart attack killed my dad at the age of 46 or 47. Now if they find heart disease soon enough, you can live 2, 3 times longer, also with high blood pressure....

When I was a kid it was surprising to hear of anyone surviving a heart attack. Now it SEEMS it's often not such a big deal.

As to what is in our food, my daughter has a strong, not extreme, reaction to glutton. She just returned from a trip to Europe which saw he able to eat whatever she chose. Makes one wonder.

It's bc of all the preservative chemicals that the government FDA people are approving to put in everything that we eat so that it will have a longer shelf life. You never ever heard of all these sicknesses that we get today. I believe they allow this BS for population control!!!

Baby boomers are getting old and living longer than any previous generation. Are you looking at raw increase in cases or a rise by percentage in a specific age population?

On the bright side, there is a new antibody treatment that targets the amyloid plaques. The initial problem with it is getting the treatment to penetrant the blood-brain barrier. But more good news, a sharp doctor has a new ultrasound co-treatment to cause temporary permeability of the BB barrier. This double barreled approach may be the cure we've been longing for.

FYI Azh got my dad.

Lost a neighbor to it this month.

I believe the rise is a combination of many things the above have posted (or maybe just one). I don't know.
No one knows much as to it, so a guess is just a guess.

Bruce Willis is the poster child for it lately.

One day on the way to work saw a woman walking near CPCC in her house coat. I gathered her up and took her to my office. Lovely grandmother type, excellent woman, very sharp. I called the numbers, but could not reach her husband.

Eventually discovered she had walked away from a care facility.
She was as normal as me, but her brain was in the past.
It all made me very sad as all she wanted was to go home.

Just entered my mother into a hospice facility on Tuesday. She’s been suffering through it for years. A horrible thing to witness a loved one decline from this as well as the toll it takes on the caregivers.

I think certain individuals are genetically predisposed to develop it, but I also believe diet, especially excess sugar consumption may play a huge roll.
