Since recruiting is heating up, I decided to look back on

some past recruiting wins. I chose the tight end position, and looking at that list, there were certainly some major surprises. It just goes to show that ratings coming out of high school do NOT determine what kind of player you will be, and may not even determine what POSITION you ultimately wind up at. Rankings are highest to lowest, Top Ten.

1. Jake Briningstool: His story is still being written, but he is far down the list as far as actual on-field Clemson tight ends.

2. Christian Bentancur: A 2024 recruit, excited to see what the future holds for this one.

3. Dwayne Allen: He was certainly among the most successful Clemson tight ends, and had a good NFL career as well.

4. Garrett Williams: He was a popular player, but really only a minor "role player" at Clemson.

5. Eric Mac Lain: Obviously Eric changed positions, I honestly did not know he was originally a tight end.

6. Jaelyn Lay: Has really been a nonfactor in his career to date.

7. Milan Richard: Played a little in a lot of games, but was for the most part a nonfactor during his time at Clemson.

8. Olsen Patt Henry: A 2023 recruit, his story is yet to be told.

9. Markus Dixon: Like Henry, a 2023 recruit whose story is yet to be told.

10. Jordan Leggett: "Lazy" Leggett, as he was jokingly referred to, is arguably the best Clemson tight end on this list. Without a doubt in the top two, along with Dwayne Allen.

As this list shows, tight ends are often made, not highly recruited. Case in point, our most recent starter, Davis Allen, is not on this list. "Stars" wise, he is down at No. 13 on the list.

flip commit from UGA. The same week we had a DE flip from Clemson to UGA and Tigernet was in an uproar.

Perhaps I'm getting Allen confused with another player's story.

Nice list. Brandon Ford like Lazy & Seckinger was a HS WR...

There's been more than a few in the Allens, Williams, the 3 mentioned that were molded into HB/TEs by Coach Pearman & now Richardson. Allen was a 3A Defensive Player of the Year in Georgia.

Wasn't it Ford's announcement ceremony that Korncoot walked out of when the Paw was chosen?

Good times.

Good list, but I have to take up for Garrett Williams. He was not a minor role player. Did he make many receptions? No, but he was a beast in our run game, he was a great blocker and our run game suffered when he was off the field plus he was one of the leaders of our team.

Michael Palmer was an extremely reliable TE!!!
Got knocked out cold but held on to ball on critical play vs Fla St.
