Was and is the epitome of 110%. Say what you will about his performance this year he always left it all on the field and I loved his fiery attitude. Wish him best of luck in his future endeavors.

Although that is what he told us: "I believe I set the standard for our running back room above what is expected from everybody else." https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-football/story/will-shipley-working-for-offenses-good-to-be-really-great,-bad-to-just-kind-of-bad-21522

He's a young kid, so I can excuse some of the arrogance and the sideline tantrums. He's got some time to grow up. Hopefully, he does. Wish him the best. Won't miss his attitude, though.

Wish him wellbut don’t think he was historically one of our best running backs.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

Not even close, but he was a very serviceable RB out of the backfield that had plenty of grit and fire in his gut that made him a must have during his time on the team when the team was going through a lot of offensive problem during his time, and Shipley wasn't one of those problems, and without him we wouldn't have won as many games as we did win bc of him!!!

Shipley will be the epitome of those Tigers from the gridiron that come up short of legend due to one simple thing
Leaving
He left before he could make his complete his mark.
He is one of many college players that moved on without stamping their spot in the schools record book thus making them long term legendary in status.
Understand I am not knocking him as a player but he has given away 25% of his time available to cement his place in Clemson history or record books. That is a large chunk not there.
I am ok with him going pro its just that his fiery attitude wont show up in the stats or records that go with long term remembrance
Just my .02

True, but he’s not concerned about that. He’s looking at the $$$. It all goes away if he continues to get hurt.

Given that Shipley will be a late round draft pick or undrafted free agent at best, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to make more money with NIL than in the NFL.

Contrast that to Trotter or Wiggins where NILwould have to come up with $5,000,000+ dollars For them to stay an extra year.

From the CBA of the NFL for 2023 “ What will the salary be for seventh-round picks in the NFL Draft? The NFL has a rookie wage scale for all drafted players, courtesy of the CBA. The CBA provides for a minimum rookie salary of $750,000 in 2023. Players can make more than that, bust most rookie contracts will include a 2023 salary of $750,000.”

“The first pick of the sixth round will sign a contract worth approximately $4.070 million and receive a signing bonus of approximately $229,940. The second pick of the round will receive a $4.063 million contract with a $223,328 signing bonus.“

Mafah and Eziomume will have NIL deals. Shipley probably made a good business decision based upon his NFL prospects for late round, and what NILmoney was left for him at Clemson.

Ship isn’t even worrying about nfl money. He is goal driven not $$ driven. His goal is to play in nfl. That has always been his goal. And the last game injury told him that he got away this year without serious injury. Then he realized that he might not be as lucky next year. So better to take chance on nfl NOW.
Makes sense to me.

He couldn’t win the starting RB job outright on our offense and he thinks he’s getting drafted.

I wish him success but the dude does not suffer from low self esteem.

He didn't strike me as arrogant the couple of times I met him, but he would have every right to be. The guy graduated from our tough business school in 3 years with a 4.0.

My two cents

Shipley was a tough, fierce running back and a strong asset to our team. Unfortunately he let his ego get in his own way a few times--and in public. To that effect the pros suit him better, as the NFL is more tolerant of personal tantrums.

Was he the best back in Clemson history? No, not even in the top 10 or 15. He had the potential but something just didn't click this year, and he let the opportunity slip by.

I view him as a Ben Boulware type of guy (minus the ego--Boulware had no such problems). Fierce, emotional, leaves it all on the field, the definition of tough. But probably not talented enough to make an NFL starting roster. That being said, I wish Shipley the absolute best and hope he has wild success in the NFL.

Great Team player and a loss to the 2024 Team. Best of luck to Ship as he moves forward in his career whatever that may be. He will always be one of my favorite players. Go Tigers.

He has the quickness - his first 5 steps are as fast as anyone. His top-end speed is average. He catches the ball out of the backfield like Wayne Gallman-a huge plus. Not as good of a blocker as Wayne Gallman. Unlike Wayne, Ship fumbles the ball too often. Wish him the best; however, he needed to stay another year. Best of luck to Ship.
