Is it just me or does his commitment say volumes about where this program is at? No matter what you think of Ryan or The Jets, this is a kid with the financial means and the family connections to walk-on pretty much anywhere in the country. I imagine he plans to follow his family into coaching at some point. That Clemson would be their/his chiice says some amazing things about the respect for this staff and Dabo in particular. That can be a little hard to keep in perspective with all the coot commentary and the vocal minority in our own fan base who place the rivalry above all other aspects of the program. When you see the caliber of people that are getting involved with our program it really is an amazing contrast with our "friends" to the south.

Seriously, you make a great point, and I think we definitely have Dabo to thank for it.

Just off the top of my head you have Spiller, Dawkins, Allen, Branch, Bowers, and Ray Lewis come spend time around the program this year. And Mangino spent some time this summer. Then Jim Kelly and Rex Ryan giving the program a seal of approval. Even a player like DeAndre McDaniel who things didn't exactly work out for constantly is tweeting out positive things about Clemson. But if you read some of the story lines elsewhere Dabo is an imbecile who tricks players into coming back or playing injured and doesn't know anything about football - just keeps hiring and firing coordinators to save his job. Doesn't really fit with the level of respect his former players seem to have for him and the increasing respect that other professionals in the industry also seem to have. Seriously, are there any former Spurrier players that actually come spend time around his program that aren't on payroll?

How many coots return home to praise their so-called program?... None. Right on the money, nice post.

You are right. I think this is a great thing for both the football team and the university in general. Clemson is a special place.

I also think it says a lot that the Ryan family that has been around the NFL for years now was so impressed with our program, particularly the facilities. Clemson has made such a huge turnaround in that regard over the past several years and it's great to hear that the results have not gone unnoticed.

Don't forget he chose Clemson over TA&M...

...and Johnny Football.....He was on the record saying he would choose to walk on to either, and was given a chance by both.
It's hard to say for sure, but I suspect is father had some amount of input. So, that may say something, too.

Seriously, best teams in the history of your program and you probably doubled your all time participation in the NFl in the last two years. Who dropped a check on the Gamecock Club or came back to give a pep talk? Jefrey, Ingram, nor Gilmore could make time! I'm sure Spiller would have given Gilmore a lift.

Because an NFL coach's son will be a walk-on? That's nice and all. But I don't understand how that's supposed to create some sort of contrast. Especially when a Gamecock OWNS the Houston Texans.

Your school's former baseball coach / current AD had to send out an olive branch to former South Carolina quarterbacks this week in what is being acknowledged even by Gamecock friendly media as an admission of the terrible job they have done with former player relations. An Spurrier was too busy passing out $100s under the bleachers to participate.

There are two things of which I have no doubt...
Jan 28, 2013, 11:06 AM

the hunh offensive scheme being the future of football and The Chad as being the best at his craft.
Like someone said, this kid will end up being a third generation coach so it's only right he get involved here and now in the future.
Now, as far as the virtue of Clemson, well, we can go on forever about that.
