Serious Question about transfer portal

Is there any difference in NIL involved with recruiting in the basketball transfer portal and the football transfer portal? I keep seeing posts about money being one of the key factors in players not choosing Clemson in the football transfer portal. Is this not the case in basketball? Brownell has been able to land transfers. I mean a player with the caliber of Girard had to be sought out by several big name programs, but Brownell was able to land him. What gives?

his top 6 players to make $600,000 each to compete in the ACC. Also, (obviously), a lot less players in bball

With our heavier roster turnover in basketball annually there is generally significant playing time to be had for someone with experience coming in any given season here. Eight players can essentially carry a basketball team whereas you're looking at 40-50 that you're going to have to rely on to carry the load in football.

I'm actually surprised that no b-ball program has gone the Deion or A&M route yet and simply bought a Fab 5 to go out there and run the table. Seems very ripe for this approach with the NIL and free agent portal system in place.

"We got $10 Mil to spend the coming season on NIL tie-ins. Line forms to the left."

They were doing that until FBI got involved. Same teams buying top 25 players annually with shoe money. Now every school buys 1-2 good players and fills the rest of the roster with who they can recruit. This is why the Blue Bloods are not dominating bball anymore. Its just legal now. Football is not sustainable, when big money donors see they can't buy a team because costs too much and they are spread over 130 teams with 85 schollies, big money will slow down. But unfortunately there will be a few schools with deep deep pockets that can still buy teams and you will end up with 8 top teams annually like bball was just a few yrs back.

The shoe scam was pre-NIL though. Now you can legit buy the whole starting 5, albeit through a marketing intermediary.

I agree that it's not a sustainable model for football. Just too many players on both sides plus special teams with depth being critical to make it through an entire season. Zero NIL won't get you there for sure, but neither will crazy NIL as it would still leave too many gaps, IMO at least.

Miami bought a guard for close to a million and then had their existing players hold their hands out and threaten to leave if they didn't get paid the same way.

It's happening and it's much easier in basketball than football.
