They are always right. Just like when lsu was ranked above fsu early, or when Bama was definitely not a playoff team struggling for 4 quarters with USF, or when they said Washington would lose to Oregon second time around, or when Ohio state was #1 because of slipping past Notre Dame at home, or when they said UGA would blow out Ga Tech, or when Bama was supposed to roll Auburn but needed a hail Mary with their starting QB to escape.
Just keep listening to the talking heads on espn. Definitely not colluding and switching the standards around to meet their narratives.
Has he ever been wrong?

Everybody is wrong at times. We would all be loaded, but FSU right now isnt that good. They never were really that great. I definitely dont think they are that good now with their QB situation. I definitely think we are better than them.

Talent, but they have both played very well at times. I havent seen FSU really play that well this year aside from beating that overrated LSU team. I would think right now they are a top 15 top top 20 type team.

I have seen Bama play poor at times. I have seen them play very well. I cant really say that about FSU. I dont think they are good and never did. We should have beaten them. We played like shyatt too.

There is absolutely NO WAY to predict who would win a game. Just because FSUs QB situation got screwed up doesn’t mean the other 21 guys didn’t do their jobs.
If a silly eye test is a variable, the system is broken. That’s the point. When you’re talking about teams who have won every game, then it’s not up to any man to say “team B is better” just because they look better on offense.
Ask yourself, why is college football the ONLY sport to choose teams based on a hilariously subjective eye test. Every other playoff include metrics and metrics only.
The system is broken. Just because Kirk or anyone says someone is better based on look, that doesn’t make it so.

The committee admittedly used a subjective eye test to select teams and Bama got in based on one game and not their body of work. It cannot be objectively stated that the committee “got it right”. That’s silly. You play the games to determine who’s better, and every single weekend subjective opinions get it wrong. That’s why you play the game.
If you want to “believe” it was right then that’s fine, but that’s a horribly flawed approach to playoffs.
And still the question remains, FSU was 4th going into championship weekend. Did they look electric on offense? Well no, but that’s not a principled metric for playoffs.
The system is broken. That’s the point.

Since he trusts his eyes so much, it’s clear he didn’t watch the Auburn game. Or USF (!) where it was 3-3 with 5min left in the third, and 10-3 inside 2 min left in the game. Certainly one of the 4 best!! Obviously.

Herbie has clearly stated his opinion and I can respect that. The problem is my criteria and his are objectively different. I'm very much of the opinion that anything can happen when the games are played. And the only way you can definitively know who is the best team is to play the games.
We will forever be denied the possibility that FSU could have gone 15-0 and claimed the trophy because subjective eye tests won over objective Wins and Losses.
Kirk's opinion if valid. I just think it stinks.

You either put the 4 most deserving teams in based on their regular season performance, or you put the 4 best teams in. He wants to sit on the fence.
Ohio state and UGA would both be favored over texas and washington.

The guys saying fsu is chopped liver or probably not even top 10, you’re preaching the Disney/SECspn narratives.
FSU defense is likely better than any team in the playoff. Their skill guys are as good or better. Their backup QB can throw and hand it off as needed. Remember when the narrative of defense wins had two sec teams playing for the natty in the most boring game ever? How quickly they switch up these narratives!
There was a narrative in 2018 that Bama was the best Bama and SEC team EVER. We had no chance, especially with a freshman QB. We won 44-16 with scout team guys on the field in the 4th as we called off the dogs. The talking heads didn’t even have words.
Don’t parrot the nonsense from media people who literally have a financial conflict of interest.

Also, yes we could have beat fsu. They came on the road when we played our best and created a turnover that flipped the game. Do you think Bama would’ve beat us that day? Washington? Michigan? Heck we could’ve beat Georgia that day and we would’ve been their toughest game all regular season. We showed flashes of still being elite that day.
Do you think fsu would play a nail biter with Auburn or USF like Bama did? Please!

a PAID EMPLOYEE OF ESPN, who just happens to own broadcast rights to the SEC. His comments are going to look like a conflict of interest. He is certainly not going to commit career suicide by getting on ESPN and ranting about how an ACC school should have gotten in at the expense of his company's SEC school.
It exactly reminds me of a situation many years ago when a board was appointed to find alternatives to fossil fuels. Who was on the board? Members of Big Oil companies. It prompted a quote which stuck with me, which, unfortunately for all afflicted, also applies to big corporate, heavily funded cancer research.
