"Saving the Bowl System" idea......

Jan 1, 2022, 10:18 PM

...no perfect answer I get it, but why not play the bowls on home field of higher ranked team? You could still get a sponsor, sellouts almost guaranteed. One of the announcers in Tenn/Purdue game mentioned atmosphere had an "on campus game" feel. Sure, one teams gets a huge advantage, I understand that, but divide up tickets 50/50 to help with that...

One of the major factors in bowl games is the amount of money the city makes in tourism. People go and spend several days, spending money. Most cities estimate they get millions of dollars in revenue from the fans.

I’m against anything that brings more Yankees to the south. They can just send us a check, we’ll mail’em a trophy.

Yes ,I can see it now. Welcome to Clemson and the 2021 Cheez-it Bowl. Great choice of a location considering Cheez-it's are orange and Clemson will be wearing all orange today against Iowa State.

I like the Idea; but as FSUBret said, "money drives the bus"!

The bowl games to my understanding started as a marketing thing in the 1st place. The season use to be over and "Yankee sports writers who likely never went South voted on National Champion"! Until a few folks at the Rose Bowl said, "as passionate as those mid-westerners are about football perhaps we can get their champion and fans out here to play the Pacific champ"! Champion vs. Champion in a extra game to settle who is the best!
Then other cities eventually caught on to: "hey these folks don't just come for the game, they stay several days and boost the economy"! The timing was always set up so that people could come when they were off work! New Years Day. The off-shoots now of playing before Christmas and in between New Years Eve is relatively new!
Some of the detail might be off in the above: but to my understanding it was setup initially for marketing of these cities. Typically in good weather places!

I personally would want to go to Ann Arbor, MI right now or "EVER"! But, especially when it's cold for a bowl game.

Kids still would opt out too though OP! Somehow they lasted 3 years w/o injury and a full season but they are "somehow going to get hurt in that one game"! And, yeah, I know about the Corrall injury. What if that happened in the Egg Bowl or the game before the egg bowl? He's still injured right?
