operational and advanced strategic warfare schooling as COL Douglas MacGregor... MacGregor retired from the Army in 2004 somewhat of a disgruntled man because the "Army" failed to recognize his self-professed brilliance when they would not promote him to flag rank. He has been publicly grinding that axe ever since and even made a second civilian career out of it.

MacGregor's shtick is to tell anyone who will listen, repeatedly, just how stupid every Flag Officer in the military is. He usually follows his "the military rot runs deep" tripe with his version of how to reshape/re-organize the military or offering some far off battlefield analysis of which he has very little actual hard intelligence. Simply put - for every 100 predictions and "analyses" made by Douglas MacGregor you can bank on well over 80% of them being wrong - and not by a little.

I know that Douglas MacGregor is a favorite of some "right" leaning folks, most notably Tucker Carlson. He simply confirms the bias that a lot of folks have about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and is therefore given a microphone to spew his very faulty analysis. MacGregor is a favorite of Carlson's because he has not only been predicting Ukraine's fall but has stated that Ukraine's resistance is futile. He's been doing this since the start of the conflict which for some reason seems to give Tucker a hard-on.

In fact, if you had listened to MacGregor back in February 2022, he made some bold claims that Kiev would fall in 4 days and that it was useless for Ukraine to resist. By fighting back, all the Ukrainians were doing was delaying the inevitable fall of their Government and country and causing much more destruction and civilian deaths. When that failed to materialize, MacGregor did his usual pivot and started talking about how Ukraine's resistance would force the Russian hand in using weapons of mass destruction, which has also failed to materialize.

Bill - if you are looking for honest, non-Media biased military analysis on Ukraine then go to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and you can get a much more accurate analysis of what is going on. I served with GEN Jack Keane who is chairman of the ISW and he, as opposed to COL MacGregor, is a master of war and is probably one of the best flag officers and warfighters this country has ever produced. The ISW's analysis has been much more accurate and honest than just about anything you will find being propped up by political commentators on any side of the aisle.

Gotta tell you tabby

Just to the layperson, my horse-sense take of things is that Russia seriously needs to make substantial gains now because otherwise the US will eventually get its sh!t together and start re-supplying Ukraine again, and those human-wave attacks are going to get way less effective when the Ukrainians actually have ammunition again. And as their new F-16's start entering the fight, it would also seem likely to me that whatever air superiority the Russians have been able to establish will likewise vanish. It took them two years to establish what air superiority they do have even without American-made F-16's knocking their planes out of the sky.

Is that about the long and short of it or am I missing stuff?
